Analog clock display was coming on by moving my hand. I changed it to pendulum, and now I have to press button to check time.

that's odd.. changing the clock face (theoretically) shouldn't change the screen wake behaviour.....

 

Long press the side button... make sure DND is off (dim), make sure sleep mode is off (dim) and make sure that screen wake is on (lit) - swipe up to get to the screen wake setting.

 

If the above is set correctly and the pendulum face still insists that you have to wake the charge 4 with the button, try a different clock face to see if it's a peculiar issue to that clock face only.... the one I use is Retro Double Stat and screen wake (either by wrist movement or touching the display) works fine for me
