Distance accuracy

Hello,

I have been doing some workouts on a treadmill, and have noticed a discrepancy between the distace that the treadmill says I have ran, and the distance my Fitbit says I have gone. For example, the other day, the treadmill display said that my workout was 2.67 miles, but my Fitbit only registered 2.06 miles. The treadmill is in a gym and has received quite a bit of use, so I don't know how accurate it is. I put my Fitbit into workout mode before I began my run.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've been thinking about measuring my stride length and then updating my Fitbit account accordingly; right now it's just using the default settings for the stride.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome @malcolmman89. It's great to see you around. If you would like to measure your stride length and input your own numbers you can follow these instructions. Please be aware that Fitbit Charge HR will count your steps and distance when walking on a treadmill but it might not provide accurate readings. I would recommend manually logging these type of activities to get more accurate readings.

If we have to manually log the distance then why do we need fitbit in the first place? My phone does a very good job of calculating the distance. I'm not sure what this device is useful for now. Not sure if it was the right decision to buy it. In my case it shows very exaggerated numbers. For example if I walk a distance of 450 meters it shows more than 1 kilometer.
