Fitbit Charge 3 Not Tracking Sleep Stages

I've had the Charge 3 for 4 days, it tracked Sleep for 2 days then stopped.  I tried setting it to Sensitive on my computer and I get an error message "Oops something went wrong" but nothing tells me what or why.  Additionally, it won't swipe left for settings on the unit itself like the instructions and video show.  Is it defective?  I've uninstalled, reset, updated the firmware...what else can I do?

I have had that too and it did a better job but sleep was the only thing
it did.

The heart tracker on my charge 2 stopped working, and when that happened,
it also lost the ability to track sleep stages.

So, if it's still tracking your pulse, it would seem less likely to be
hardware.

I changed to my non dominant wrist, and for some reason, it seems to work
better.

Mine is still doing everything else, heart, steps, etc. Just reminded me it is time for bed but know it will not track sleep for the third night in a row. I wear mine on the non-dominate wrist (couple of inches above as suggested).

That happened to the Versa I bought. I have spent $350. on these two watches in the past 12 months. Frustrating! Back when I had no watch, just the dear old Jawbone (it was always spot on). Anyone else ever have one of those?

My problem began after that update we had this past week. So I am sure it had something to do with that. I rebooted today. Twice. We will see what it says tonight but not hopeful.

Fitbit should be sooooo embarrassed by this ongoing problem. Instead it’s tell the customer they’re doing something wrong.  Mine worked fine for months then suddenly stopped measuring rem etc and gives no sleep score :(.

I understand. Mine is same. It tracks very erratically. I have learned
if I reboot it helps part of the time. Sometimes it does not show up
until later in the day. Scoring is crazy. I got more and better sleep
last night than night before...but was given a lower score. Crazy. I am
thinking of going to a smart watch even if I do have to pay an on line
access fee.

My Charge 3 has been a dud from the get go! Should be lawfully discontinued!

Thinking about leaving Fitbit for another brand. My face dial is so dim it is almost unreadable

switching wrists oddly seemed to help. the deal breaker for me was the 15
minutes I had to spend every morning to get the silly thing to sync.

I bought a samsung fit. it can't possibly go any worse.

I know the feeling. I had the Versa before this one and it was even worse.

As soon as Applewatch has a sleep tracking feature, I’m switching.
I was considering buying the new Versa 2, but your review of the original has helped me to decide not to.

So here's what worked for me.......downloaded most current fitbit version to my phone.  Noticed that the setting to capture heartbeats was now set to off.  Turned this setting back to on.  Slept overnight,  Sleep score and and sleep stages APPEARED   🙂   Hope this might work for others.  Merry Christmas!

Are you on Apple or Android as that makes a difference in your suggestion?  What version of the software are you using?  I am on the latest Android version and I don't see a capture heartbeats setting - is it actually called something else?

I hope it continues to work for you, but need more info for others to compare and contrast your fix.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day!

I am on Android. Samsung Note 9. What is latest version number if you are on Android? Mine is hit and miss....but I have found that if I get up and it does not give me a reading, I first check to see when it synced. Then I reboot my watch....and usually power off my phone (that needs to be done every other day at least anyway) that sometime a little later it will have my numbers up.  About one day out of a week though, it just simply will not track.  I had a longer season than that though with it not tracking at all. Then suddenly it began tracking if I did what I explained.  Not perfect solution but seems necessary. Oh, and my heart beat is showing, no problem there.  Sleep is only thing it does not seem to track.

I'm going to point you to my original answer.  As people are still posting in this thread and clearly are not reading what has worked most consistently for me (voted best answer by the OP).  I will say that since the app was last updated, I don't have to turn off/back on the bluetooth as often, and on the occasion that sleep stages do not show up, I can usually delete/re-add the night the next day and it will correct. Which tells me the problem is not the tracking it is the app.  I do have to add mine manually every day, but that is another problem, and since it is working otherwise a minor inconvenience.

To answer your question as you did not answer mine - Fitbit version 3.12.1 Released on December 18.

Many people will give you the old "please try these steps" spiel.  I have found none of them to be the consistent answer.  For quite some time, I just accepted that the band wasn't tracking sleep because of the fit, or because I moved too much in my sleep, or it lost the heartbeat.  All of which would make basic sleep come up instead.  Plus for me, it never syncs sleep unless I add it manually, which is another problem altogether.

Here is what I do instead, and I get sleep stages every day.  I start the app, then turn airplane mode on for the phone.  I wait for the app to say it is disconnected, then turn airplane mode off.  I add sleep, tell it how long I slept, and like magic, sleep stages appear.  If, in the rare event, it tracks partial sleep, I delete that one, airplane on/off, then add the correct sleep time.  I have even been able to go back a day or three and delete/re-add prior days and they change to sleep stages.

As I have been able to get this to work consistently, I conclude the problem is with the Fitbit app.  I hope this gives you actual help without having to go thru all the hoops that never worked for me.

Get your app fixed Fitbit!

I answered a portion of your question....telling you Android. I have same version. I have never used the Airplane Mode on my phone  and don't have a clue as to what that would do to help...so no I have not tried that. Nor have I manually entered sleep times. The watch has on many occasions shown sleep when I was actually awake and sitting on the sofa watching a movie or such....for now it is tracking...I just seem to have to give it time to sync in the mornings.....it will say cannot find the device. But last night was good night.

Hi. For me it’s version 3.12.1 (915).  I have an iPhone 10R.  The setting is within the Fitbit 3 watch.  To get there, swipe to the left three times, tap on settings, swipe up to Heart Rate option and ensure it is on.  Best of luck all.
