Fitbit Charge 3 Not Tracking Sleep Stages

I've had the Charge 3 for 4 days, it tracked Sleep for 2 days then stopped.  I tried setting it to Sensitive on my computer and I get an error message "Oops something went wrong" but nothing tells me what or why.  Additionally, it won't swipe left for settings on the unit itself like the instructions and video show.  Is it defective?  I've uninstalled, reset, updated the firmware...what else can I do?

Update

I changed the sensitivity, wear the band above my wrist bone, turned off the auto sync (or whatever it’s called), and it has been working properly. I don’t know which parameter made the difference.

I do know the location of the band matters because it incorrectly measured hr when on the boney part of the wrist during an exercise. I think the sensitivity is the most important change.

@CJY56 Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for reporting the situation you are experiencing with your Charge 3 not tracking sleep stages and not swiping. Thanks for performing those troubleshooting steps in order to sort this out.

Are you still experiencing the same?

In this case, I'd recommend checking the wrist placement you are using while sleeping. This is because heart rate needs to be tracked correctly for sleep stages to appear. Check more details about what other factors may be preventing sleep stages to get tracked here.

For the nights that sleep was not tracked; please manually log those records. That way you won't miss any data.

Regarding the swipe feature; is it swiping in other directions (up or down)?

Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

Looks like a trend here where mine tracked sleep stages for 2 days and for the last four it has not. Is there a problem that we should be aware of or return the Fitbit to the place of purchase ( BestBuy) that I have the option for the first 30 days.

Hello, welcome to the forums @Cocoman598

I'm sorry to see that you've been having some trouble to get the sleep stages information. Before considering other options, please confirm if you've checked the information provided here on why you may not be getting detailed sleep data or sleep stages on a specific day ,and check all the other information mentioned here above.

Also, if you continue to experience this inconvenience, try performing a restart on your Charge 3 and check if you do get sleep stages data for the following days.

Please keep us posted on the outcome.

I've done the restart already. Placement seems fine. Recorded the first three nights and not the last two. Got my bf one before me and his started acting up right before I got mine, as far as sleep tracking. I slept super hard one night and I sleep about 6-8hrs so I know it is enough data to compile a sleep result. Please help

Try syncing it to your cell phone app before checking the sleep screen on the tracker. That’s what I started doing. It seems to work. I hope it’s just a bug that can be fixed with a firmware update.

Welcome to the forums @Ororo_LeBeau, and thank for the details and confirming that you already tried the restart and made sure placement was properly. Could you please confirm with the suggestion @CJY56 mentioned as well? Syncing your Charge 3 to your account before checking the sleep information on the device.

Please keep us posted.

Hi there,

I had the same experience, getting the Sleep Stages only for the first 2 nights, although I did not change anything in the setting...

Have been in contact with the support team for the last weeks and tried everything, from changing the sleep sensitivity, wristband placement and tightness, left-right hand, dominant/ non-dominant setting, updated, restarted etc etc. Only read the Sleep log after syncing the watch with the app.

I am getting the standard answer from the support team that: ''sleep stages can be affected by a combination of your movement during sleep, HRV data, and personal physiology''. But how come that, as soon as I wear back the old Charge 2, Sleep Stages and the heart rates while speeping are back to normal? Not to mention the first 2 nights it worked just fine.

Reason for not getting the Sleep Stages remains the same: couldn't get a consistent heart rate reading while sleeping.

What I find it strange is that, heart rate seems to be meassured correcly during the day, but as soon as I fall asleep, it starts to oscilate strangely between 73-77 BPM, while with Charge 2 I always had it around 60.

Just hoping that by sharing my similar experience on this thread, someone at Fitbit will recognise this is not an isolated issue and look for a fix. For now, I am seriously considering sending this tracker back...

Thanks

If you look at the forums, this is a reported issue for most of the FitBit trackers. I have a Charge 2 which once provided consistent detailed sleep reports. Now I get them occasionally once every 1-2 weeks!!

Apparently, only some folks have experienced this problem. I've tried ALL of the recommendations from moderators/posters. No luck. I was going to upgrade to a Charge 3 but feel that it's too buggy. My Charge 2 is otherwise a great device!!

I do have a low HR (46 resting) which may interfere with the sleep reporting according to some posters.

Same issue.

Got the heart rate measuring but no stages.

Seems to be wide spread.

I hope its it’s not a defect as this is my second Charge3.

I got  a defective one and I had to ship it back

whats up Fitbit??????

My tracker isn't keeping sleep records either, except I keep getting a message about the server.  It's very frustrating

I have followed the steps detailed and still am not having my sleep tracked--very disappointing.

Tried all steps suggested...

most nights are tracked with a basic tracking.

Very disappointing for an expensive tracker..

first Charge3 I got was defective.. sent it back with hassle..

second one half defective..

what gices?

There's definitely a theme here...my new Charge 3 also captured first two nights' sleep, and couldn't sync the third night...that data now appears to be lost. The watch was showing what looked like an accurate heart rate over the ~18 hours of missing data, but I just couldn't sync this data.

After following every suggestion on this forum (resets, adding as new device, restarting phone, etc.), it randomly started sync'ing on the fourth day.

Strange that there are so many reports of two days sync, followed by the third not being captured?

Mine stopped tracking sleep stages when I got the update a few days ago.

Had the charge 3 just over a week, the tracker seems fine, however the sleep tracker stopped after 5 days and hasn't tracked my sleep for the last 3 days.

I suffer from shortage of sleep and was really counting on this device to give me better understanding of my sleep pattern.

I've tried the recommendations above but they haven't worked. Have I been sold a dud ?

I have a old Fitbit Surge which i tried and the sleep was tracked on that.

Is this a issue with the Charge 3 ?

I’ve had my charge 3 for about a week now...it tracked my sleep the first night, but I got no REM results. Set the setting to Sensitive after that night and still no REM results. When is this going to be fixed? If it’s not, then it looks like I’m returning it and getting a different, non-FitBit tracker...

I had the same issue. I turned off my heart rate tracking cause I thought it would preserve the battery. But because the heart rate was off, it could not track my sleep. I turned on heart rate tracking and it automatically tracks my sleep now. Give that a try. Good luck
