I've had the Charge 3 for 4 days, it tracked Sleep for 2 days then stopped. I tried setting it to Sensitive on my computer and I get an error message "Oops something went wrong" but nothing tells me what or why. Additionally, it won't swipe left for settings on the unit itself like the instructions and video show. Is it defective? I've uninstalled, reset, updated the firmware...what else can I do?

I'm a new owner/user of the Charge 3 and also experiencing this issue. It worked perfectly fine for the first week, than stopped showing the sleep stages... after trying everything (reboot, re-install), nothing was working until I have charged my Fitbit to 100% and it worked again until the the battery dropped to 70%... as soon as I charged it back to 100% I got my sleep stages back for a short while...
I have notice more oddities, that I'm indication below, which I'm hoping will help the Fitbit team to find the cause and fix this issue:
last night, I woke up at 6:30am, checked my fitbit app for the sleep view, and got the stages (REM, Deep, Light with the count of 6 hours and 32 min of sleep), yay!, than, I napped right after for less then an hour (with a 5 min wake time), guess what happened? the entire thing changed to the simple sleep pattern with the count of 7 hours and 15 min, not stages, it erased the stages. the interesting part, is that the summery of wake/restless time is correct for the 1 hour of my nap time, but, the time period is the whole night.
This happened more than once in the past.
so, here are my observations:
1. Charging to 100% will bring back the sleep stages after been gone for days.
2. Having a short nap right after the night sleep, will erase the Stages - Probably as soon as the app triggered the nap time, it takes over the rest of the sleep period, and therefore renders everything as patterns, not stages.
3. I have noticed that the Heart rate info is updated to the app few good minutes after the sleep info is... so, this might be the case, where the sleep stages calculation not getting the heart rate at the same time it does the calculation, and without the heart rage, there is no sleep stages.
it may be that the above is just coincidental, but, I wrote it here in case one or more are actually related to the reason we don't get the sleep stages 🙂

Just received my new Charge 3. The sleep stages worked the first 2 nights and now same issue as others does not show stages of sleep.

So I read through everyone’s reviews and tips and this is what I did to get the stages (it’s been working since Friday 11/16): first I charged my Fitbit to full strength. While that was charging, I turned off the “Sync All-Day” mode (truly, I’m finding it completely pointless cause it doesn’t sync all day, you still have to log in and sync it...but that’s another issue). I put the Charge 3 back on and at bed time, I just let it be. I put it back on a little higher than my wrist bone (about 2 fingers width). When I woke up, I ignored my phone, took a shower, came back and logged in to have it sync, and voila! My sleep stages have been there ever since, and I’m hoping it’s not a fluke!

Adding a bit of visualization:
I have taken some screenshots from a restless night that I had (took the opportunity 🙂 ),
and this confirmed my own points in my previous post.
It seems that the sleep stages disappeared after I woke and walk for few minutes before heading back to bed for another hour.
* I will try the suggestion on turning off the 'All day sync', which if true, may be connected to the sync sleep data before heart data as I mentioned before. Sleep stages disappearing

Seems to be an App problem, not a hardware or user problem.
Try this:
1. Memorize basic sleep/wake times.
2. Delete the basic record (sleep/restless/awake)
3. Enter a manual record using the times from the basic record.
REM/Light/Deep stages will appear.

Don’t know what I did to correct the issue but it has worked ever since the glitch after the first few nights. I tried a lot of other things suggested on this site and one of them worked.

I've been using the above approach for many months (Charge 2 and 3). I go one step further. Before I purchased my first Fitbit, I had been using an Android app (Sleep as Android) to track sleep. It involves manually recording time to start sleep (i.e. turn off light and head on the pillow) and wake up. I still use that app in parallel and having deleted the Fitbit basic record, use the times I manually recorded to create a new record. I do that as the Fitbit record begin and end times (basic or stages) are often way off, perhaps because I am a restless sleeper. The process nearly always completes with a sleep stages record suggesting the heart data is there; the app is just initially failing to recognise it for some reason.

That's a good point... This hasn't affected me yet, but my wife tried doing the manual entry a couple days ago, and even after trying that, the app still wouldn't display the in-depth stats. The issue was that she was using the fitbit "Start sleep" time, when in reality she was awake atleast 20 minutes after. Not sure what happened there, but manually tracking your sleep should solve all the issues.

Hi all
I tried some of the suggestions and found that the one that worked was to stop/start the heart rate monitor on the charge3.So since my initial post, for the last 2 weeks I’ve had perfect sleep results ( not perfect sleep though 😜).
So when I’ve needed to recharge the watch I’ve just stopped and started the heart rate and it’s been recording sleep stages without a problem.
Be interested to see if it’s worked for anyone else.

I have tried as suggested to delete basic record and enter it manually, did not worked for me.
I have also tried to stop the heart monitor, and did not worked.
I still believe it is an app / API issue, that needed to be fixed. and I hope someone from Fitbit does monitor these conversations. I think what is going on is two things: the heart data is sync after the sleep data is, and / or when the sleep sync senses a "nap" just by waking up (as my examples above shows), both scenarios will trigger a flag that mark it as basic data, and this flag cannot be removed or changed for some reason.

The 1st night I used the Charge 3 the sleep stages were tracked, but the 2nd and 3rd day the sleep stages were not tracked. I noticed that the straps were not put in like the picture on the box, with the clasp on the topside instead of the bottomside, so I changed them to match the way it is on the picture on box. So day 4 the sleep stages were tracked. I wonder if the straps make a difference in the placement on wrist.

I’ve had my Fitbit for several months it’s always tracked my sleep stages. 3 nights ago it stopped tracking my stages. It’s fully charged and I’ve reset it. My band is in the same notch as when I started. What’s the problem?

Thanks for the clue about a short nap or rest right after waking up. That is something I will look into. My Charge 3 also tracked sleep the first 6 nights okay and then the last three have not included detailed sleep data. It has plenty of other bugs, too. I am sorry I bought the darned thing, and I am past the return window.

Couldn’t agree more.
Buggy as hell.
Beta if not alpha level performance.
Next tracker sure won’t be a Fitbit.

After reading through this, I assume this matter has not been resolved. I just received my new Fitbit Charge 3 a few days ago and am also not receiving my sleep stage data. I would love to know if there is any resolution to this or if I should return it.

I haven't had trouble with mine in a couple weeks. Maybe they fixed it with the last firmware update. Strange that some people have issues, still.

I started getting the sleep stages again since the last update in December. Worth checking the latest firewall is installed and also restart the watch.
It worked for me, after almost 3 months of no sleep stages.
