Fitbit Charge 3 adding random steps when synced

Not sure if anyone can help but it keeps sporadically happening to me at the moment. Not sure if it is because the device is about 2 years old now.

I use a Huawei phone but haven't had problems until the last few weeks for no reason I can see.

When I look at my steps it shows a huge spike of thousands of steps in a 15 minute time frame, out of nowhere seemingly! I like to think I can walk at a decent pace but I don't move that fast unfortunately.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Missfitzuk.

Thank you for the information provided.

If your Fitbit Charge 3 was placed on a surface near an electrical appliance issuing vibrations, your Tracker might have recorded them as steps. I would recommend putting your Fitbit device on a different place and see if the issue gets resolved. If necessary, you can negate the extra data by following the instructions in this article in the menu "How do I delete steps and floors in the Fitbit app?".

Whether this is not your case, please be aware that your Fitbit Tracker may register extra steps on different situations. For more information, I would recommend visiting this article and open the menu "Why does my Fitbit device count extra steps?".

The dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving. Your dominant hand is the one you use for writing and eating. You can find this feature if you go to the online Dashboard at fitbit.com > click the gear icon upper in the right side corner > Settings >Devices> Charge 3 > Wrist. In addition, you can perform a restart by following these steps.

Hope this helps.

This has happened to me 4 times now and it happens while I'm sleeping. Just last night it added 10,000 steps at midnight.

Also the link provided does not show to delete steps.

This happened to me today. Annoying, since I´m tracking all my activity and calories. Today I guess I walked 8,000 steps. My Fitbit suddenly counted 33,000. While I was working at my home office.

I found an article on how to delete steps. You need to add a record of you doing something like driving for the time the steps were added and that should delete the steps.

Hi

The problem described earlier has happened several times now. I am sure the problem lies in the app, not the watch, since my watch has the actual count for my steps. The problem appears when when the app is syncing data from the watch. It seems like the app is counting the data double or sometimes tripple. If I don’t delete the app before the next sync, the watch is copying data from the app, and then it’s too late to fix. That means I have to do the trick described above, wich is pointless, since there is no logic in the timeframe here.

The fact that this has happened 5 times this week, makes me think that the Fitbit-app has a bug that needs to be fixed.

I’ll give you a chance to fix this. My Plan B is to buy a Garmin.

Just checking in. My Fitbit counted 53 742 steps this morning, while I was drinking my first cup of coffee.

If you have set up MobileTrack to your Fitbit account, please remove it.

For instructions, please visit this article and open the menu "How do I remove a Fitbit device from my account?".

Have a nice day.

I have been experiencing the same exact thing with my Charge 5.  Started a couple of weeks ago and has happened 4 times.  It happens during sync, I've witnessed it twice. Exceedingly frustrating because there seems to be no way to delete them, as they are not tied to an event. This must be app problem. The suggestion to turn off Mobile Track is the most concrete solution I've heard. I always wondered what that even was. Will give it a try.  Will continue checking this thread for updates.
