Fitbit counts driving as exercise!

Hi,

I have few comments about fitbit chrage HR.
They are things that can be fixed easily by the developers:

1. It counts driving as exercise!! (big issue for me)
If I have a 5 days exercise goal and I never exercised this week but I drove 5 days (I have to log my driving since it sometimes add a lot of steps/floors), I still reach my exercise goal while I actually never worked out this week!!
So, The app developers can easily count driving as a normal activity not an exercise that contribute to my goals (as I'm just sitting in the traffic 😄 )

2. They have to find a better solution for the steps/floors added by fitbit while driving! (not easy for fitbit app developers)
Once, I was driving for 5 hours at a speed of 120km/h and fitbit counted 12000 steps and 145 floors !!
It should automatically correct this (even from the phone after syncing) as my speed was extremely high for walking and my heart rate was very low (as I was just sitting)
Google has a solution for this as Google fit app is a lot smarter in detecting driving automatically.
I understand that Google fit app doesn't export the results so that fitbit app can use them to correct the steps/floors count. but, I think the developers can implement a similar algorithm to the one used by Google fit.

3. When I log my driving, The added steps/floors are removed but the badges aren't !!
This should be very easy for the developers (to give the ability to users to remove badges).
As till now, I have badges that I didn't earn. This makes me feel like a cheater and makes me less competitive 😞 (as I already won the badges)

Thanks,
Ahmed

It's great to see you around @elshaera. Unfortunately your tracker is picking up vibrations from the car through the steering wheel and along your arm.  There are 3 ways you can prevent this:

1. You can plug it in to charging cable while you are driving, the Fitbit Charge HR will not count steps while it is charging.

2. From your phone, you can download an app called DriveBit while will automatically create a driving activity for you and eliminate the steps.

3. You can continue logging the activity "Driving".

About the badges, there's any option to delete the one you didn't earn but I would definitely follow suggestion number 1.

Thanks Alejandra for your reply!

But If I log driving activities, The fitbit application counts driving as exercise !
So, I am always reaching my weekly exercise goal not because I exercise but because I drive !! 😄
This should be extremely easy to fix.

Thanks,

Thanks for the information @elshaera and @DeinGesicht! Manually logging the activity driving won't cause any inconvenience since it works to negate the extra information your tracker registered while driving. I recommend try this procedure.

Thanks @AlejandraFitbit.

My whole point is that although the extra steps/floors are removed, Fitbit "App" considers driving as exercise.
So, I am always reaching my weekly exercise goal even if i don't exercise simply because i drive to work 5 days per week 😄

I am a teacher and ride on a school bus for field trips. My Fitbit logs the riding in the bus as exercise! Ugh. My hands are not on a steer ing wheel and I have no place to hook in my charger. It just logs bumps and video rations from potholes, sharp turns, bouncy seats.

Thanks for the information @elshaera and @CarolineFK. It's weird to hear that this activity is not taking away the extra information. In this case I recommend contacting our Support Team since they have the proper tools to see the information that your tracker is recording. For a faster response you can contact them via phone or chat.

They still do not get it. We are not concerned about the extra step data. It is right there at the top clear as crystal. It says 3 OUT OF 5 DAYS. 3 out of these 5 days I have been DRIVING not EXERCISE not anything else. Even though the step data is negated by logging, DRIVING is still counted as exercise towards the daily exercise goal. I dont know how to make this anymore clear.

If you log driving as an exercise activity, and duration, then view it on the dashboard in the daily exercise section, (click into the driving log that you have entered) you will see zero steps,  and zero active minutes. Which is what you want it to say! So nothing has been counted except calorie burn, which will always be burning as long as your alive!!!!!!

The fitbit is counting driving as an exercise and if I log it, I can negate the steps and floors, but driving is still counted as an exercise, and it adds up in your active minutes. This should be easily solved for a fitness tracker of this price.

I am having the same issue. I am deleting 'steps' by logging 'driving' but it is counting each 'driving' as an activity towards my 'activities goal'. I have done no exercise activities this week, but it has logged me down as 3 - each one is driving which i find it hard to justify as a worthwhile piece of exercise!

Is there a solution for this that anyone knows of?

Fitbit, notice this, its ruining my experience too

Sad that Fitbit dev team are not doing anything to fix these issues. 😞 I wont recommend a Fitbit to anyone.

Still no fix for this. I don't understand why! Nobody seems to have this issue other than fitbit, it must be a simple fix to at least log the driving but it not count as an exercise! I'm apparently exercising 7 days a week just by driving every day and after spending £220 on a fitness tracker that can't track my fitness properly I just feel robbed!!

I have the exact same issue with my Charge 2... driving is being counted as exercise. That's incredibly stupid, as they can easily analyze the movement data and tell you are driving not walking. I was driving at 60 mph and checked my fitbit several times and saw steps going up.

Creating a "driving activity" is an incredibly stupid and insulting workaround for something that could easily be fixed in code if they wanted to pay a developer a few hours to do it.

Yes it discounts the steps, but it keeps driving as ‘exercise’ when I manually log it. As someone who works shift and the number of times I can work out a week changes, it is frustrating that driving registers as a day a I have exercised because that is not the case!

Also I have tried charging my Fitbit on the way to work and it did add steps.

This discussion goes back quite a long time so I don’t understand why you can’t log the driving (it should also be an option from then Fitbit without having to go online) and then not count it towards the weekly exercise count

I have been asked to raise this as an issue to be voted for by fitbit. The more votes i get the sooner we can get a fix for this highly frustrating issue. Plus vote on the below link 🙂 https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Adding-quot-driving-quot-activity-without-adding...
