Fitbit took away steps

My new Fitbit Charge 3 registered 10,000 steps for me today and even threw a little party on the device with a disco ball! When I got home and synched it to the app on my phone, it went down to 9,300 steps. Why? I don't enter anything manually and this is the only device I wear.

Try force quit Fitbit app, power off then on your phone.  Relaunch Fitbit app and re-synch between Charge 3 and app to fix the discrepancy.

The reverse happened to me recently: my Charge 3 showed 6000 steps but the app was showing 13000 all of a sudden.  Force quit and restart my phone then re-synching corrected the steps on the Fitbit app.

Thats not the point. The steps are taken away before any sync
