Heart rate tracking accuracy

Hi all

So today (and for a while really) I noticed my charge 2 having very different HR readings to my other HR monitor and gym equipment. For example today my charge said 155 was my max at the gym but then I noticed at one stage the treadmill said 195!!!!

I have a heart condition and I risk passing out anywhere over 160 so for me this was critical. I rely on my charge to help me monitor my condition but to be out by 40bpm is a lot !!

Any ideas why this is happening ??

(Note it's happened on other equipment before now too so I know it's not the treadmill that's dodgy!)

Hi @Stephknight93, welcome to the Community Forums! Thanks for your post.

I appreciate all the details that were shared in your post. Let me share with you that several factors can affect your heart rate, including air temperature, stress level, physical body position, and medication use (source).

Exercising in cold weather can make it more difficult for your device to track your heart rate, as environmental conditions can affect skin perfusion (the amount of blood that flows through your skin). Spikes in your heart rate during sleep may be caused by sudden movements (for example, waking up and getting out of bed), or a weak signal due to wrist placement.

Review our tips in How do I improve the accuracy of my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device? For any concerns about your heart-rate data, I also suggest you to contact your physician. Keep in mind that we do not recommend our users to compare the information that's tracked with a Fitbit device and other tracking-devices because they may use different algorithms to detect such data.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
