How do I make numbers brighter on fitbit?

I thought I remembered the settings being in the app, but your user manual, page 17, says settings are on the Charge 3

Adjust settings
Manage basic settings including brightness, heart-rate tracking, and button
sensitivity directly on your tracker. Open the Settings app and tap a setting to
adjust it. Swipe up to see the full list of settings. 

The help docs give this info.
