In Regards of FitBit & Pokemon GO's Adventure Sync (clarification)

To moderators: This is not a suggestion 😉

Merely a clarification in regards of: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Pokemon-Go-Adventure-Sync-Support/idc-p/3043037 (the PGO Adventure Sync Suggestion) - And another suggestion post that is now closed.

I'm very disappointed to see so many complaints towards the FitBit and "desire" to exchange it just because it lacks "proper" integration with Google Fit so it can count towards Pokemon GO. This is Niantics/Pokemon's Fault, Not FitBit!

While I would love this integration, this is something that can't be easily done by FitBit alone. Sure, they can maybe create some kind of integration with Google Fit.. but then what? It's still a third party integration and the data from FitBit that would be send to Google Fit will NOT be accepted by Pokemon GO.

This is something that Niantic/Google has to accept as well. Barely any of the watches (besides google & Apple Watch) are accepted as actual data in Pokemon GO.

You can complain about it towards FitBit (though, they should've already added some kind of integration with google fit already) but this is NOT their fault.

Please do your research first which data is being accepted by Adventure Sync. Because as you can see, all mostly all smartwatches are affected by this issue.

Again, the only thing that is truly lacking on Fitbit's side is proper Google Fit integration. But even  IF that was the case and that was added, PGO would still not accept FitBit's data because Adventure Sync doesn't accept it.

It's not exactly 1 to 1 but I can confirm it definitely works.  I haven't opened pogo in like a week but I keep getting candy alerts from my buddy, the only explanation for that is fit to fit syncing with Google fit, and therefore syncing with adventure sync giving me candy.  You won't see the results instantaneously if that is what you are looking for.

I hope you realize Google fit tracks your mobile movement  right? 🙂  which is probably why. Fittofit doesn't work  and has been verified by a lot of people as fittofit adds the fitbit data manually into Google fit.

Maybe you already knew this  but all manual entries won't count to adventure sync.

Yes. Not everyone can take their phone everywhere with them. I work at Amazon and cell phones are NOT allowed in the Fulfillment Center. I walk anywhere  I am allowed to wear my Fitbit but none of the data counts. I walked 17 miles yesterday and almost 9 miles so far for today. I wish the companies involved would pull their heads out of ther sand and fix this issue.

Extremely disappointed about the whole thing.

As of this writing, no health bands outside of Google products count toward adventure sync, incuding Apple Watches, Garmin, and FitBit.

You can exercise willpower to not pull it out during your shift and bring a stunt phone to be seen pulling it out of your pocket and putting in in your locker.

What?  Of course Apple Watches work.

For Adventure Sync as well or just acting as a Pokemon Go Plus?

My friend with an Apple Watch reports it works just great with Adventure Sync.

Same. I was excited at first when i heard about it. 😕

I log an average of 15 miles a day as a picker. It would make my day a bit brighter if they could actually used for something other than pain.

Amazon sends you though metal detectors, no sneaking it in.

Sounds like you should consider Apple Watch, if they allow that.

I use my fitbit everyday for pokemon go. I have to have the fittofit app to link my Googlefit app to the fitbit app, then the pokemon go app has to be running in the background for it to count. If the pokemon go app isnt open nothing is recorded

Apparently Apple Watch support ends soon 😞

The application for Apple watches will retire. It will still fully be supported by adventure sync directly.

And yet there is no way to get Fitbit data into Pokémon Go. If you use third party software to sync it Pokémon go treats it as a manual input and ignores it. Fitbit needs to wake up and work with Apple to integrate automatic sync with iHealth. I have an ionic and honestly don’t use many of the supplied apps but would love to have my data automatically accepted in my game. I’ve been a Fitbit user forever now, going back to the first models. But if google and Apple watches are the only ones that allow data to auto sync with ihealth then I may leave Fitbit behind.

Fit to Fit is not available in Canada.

So now that Google owns Fitbit, will we be able to sinc up to PoGo in the near future?

Best Answer

What's your correlation? Google has nothing to do with PoGo any more than
fitbit did.

I think what you are asking is:

Will Fitbit devices be able to sync to Google Fit directly as an authority? If so, then we have a chance.

PoGo's Adventure Sync allows inputs from the Google Fit application. Now That Google and Fitbit are one, what restrictions exist for Fitbit that doesn't exist for Google Fit?
Best Answer

Google buying FitBit hasn't changed the technology.  Since Niantic has restrictions on what it considers an authoritative source for fitness, they will need to change that, and discuss it with FitBit (soon to be owned by Google) or Google will need to make an effort to cross sync FitBit data to Google Fit, BUT (Here's the big but) it must be seen as a first party source.  You can already sync FitBit to Google Fit using FitToFit but it's seen as a 3rd party source.  So, PoGo won't regard it.

We have no idea yet if this is on Google's roadmap for FitBit devices.

"The transaction is expected to close in 2020, subject to customary closing conditions, including approval by Fitbit’s stockholders and regulatory approvals."

I'm not sure Google can even start making technology changes until the transaction is complete sometime next year.

In short:  Google doesn't own them yet, and we have no idea if they're invested in making this work.
