Incorrect calories burned?

Hi, I'm a new Fitbit user and I'm new to the health and fitness scene in general. I got a Charge 3 yesterday, I wore it all day and night and I've been noticing some weird stats on there.

It was my birthday yesterday and I basically stayed inside all day (it was raining, I'm in the UK so lockdown, and it was my birthday so I'm doing what I want 😂).

Throughout yesterday and this morning though, the calories burned stat keeps going up. I've been awake less than an hour today and it says I've burned 1029 calories already. Surely that can't be right?

I've only done 284 steps, so I don't understand what is happening here 😂

Fitbit includes your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just to stay alive.  They would increase  calorie burn throughout the day, even when inactive; also account for calories burned overnight.  They are also credited even when you are not wearing the watch.

For more on this, see How does my Fitbit device calculate calories burned?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I read this earlier, but this is seriously overshooting the mark. For instance, today I have only done around 3000 steps and no intense exercise, and it is saying that I have burned 3247 calories. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I can't see my metabolism being that good 😂
