Please assist, my Fitbit is incorrectly calculating my distance while running, I did a 21km last weekend but my watch said I did 18km and this moribund again I did a 5km but watch showed 4km.

I’ve restarted my Fitbit but that didn’t work 🙈 where and how can I fix this problem.
thanks

Assuming you are not using connected-GPS, i.e. fitbit linking to phone's GPS, your distance is calculated as number of steps time stride length.  Fitbit sets an initial default stride length for you, but it can be adjusted for better accuracy.

For details on how to set this, see

How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?

Based on the numbers you gave, if you prefer not to measure stride length, you should come close if you just multiply your running stride length by (21/18) or (5/4), or about 1.2 is between those two.  Then you could continue to make finer adjustments based on further results.

But be aware it cannot get exactly precise results as your stride length is bound to vary somewhat.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Yes I've had this ongoing saga with fitbit for months and Fitbits response every month is their working on an update, which I dont think is ever coming. (If your fitbit out of warranty they dont care)

I've finally lost my patience in fitbit and purchased a garmin watch.

Good luck in getting yours sorted

I have the same problem with walks.  My Fitbit is connected to my 'phone and the track shows correctly on the website.  The distance shown on today's walk is 4.83mi, but if I download the track and put it into a track editor that shows 6.22mi.

The stride length is set to calculate automatically and shows 28.3ins.  On this walk 13,470 steps were recorded which calculates out to 6.02mi.  So that is also inconsistent.

I have added a screen shot of my computer showing the walk on the Fitbit website overlaid with the GPX editor display of the same walk.  This shows Fitbit's 4.83mi and (at the bottom) the calculated 6,22mi
