My app is saying that my Charge 4 has a firmware update, but after reading numerous comments about poor battery life and blank screens after updating I am leery. I am on my 3rd Charge 4,( first one-blank screen, second one-broken connectors) what version number is the new update and what is it updating?
Thank you

Hi, @Crazygamer53 you will find info on the various versions and updates in this help article . It looks like the latest firmware update has some important security patches so it might be a good idea to go ahead and update.
Updates are always optional, of course. You can ignore them. If you have any trouble with your Fitbit following an update you can always get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on Contact.Fitbit.com .

Hi, Thank you so much for directing me to that article!!! I looked through the forums but could not find any info. I know that Support is always available but have found from past experiences they normally offer suggestions that I have already tried and when it is past the warranty period offer a 35% off coupon which I’m not interested in. At this time, I think I will wait to update and keep checking the forum to see if issues arise from the update. I only use my Charge 4 for tracking Sleep, Steps & Exercise & sync with my IPad at home so I think I will be okay.
There is another question that I have that perhaps you ca answer. I will be starting Aquatic Therapy and instead of not wearing my Charge 4 (I have never gotten it wet) I was going to switch to my Inspire 2 or Hr in the water. Since I will need to disconnect my Charge 4 from my account to do this when I reconnect it to my account will it automatically update it to the new firmware? If that is the case I will just take my Charge 4 off for my sessions and forget about switching trackers. Thank you for all your help, I truly appreciate it!!!

@Crazygamer53 , that is a very good question! It certainly used to be true that in such a case you would need to update before it would let you re-set up your device. However I just tried this with both the Luxe and the Sense and it allowed me the option to update later. So I cannot absolutely confirm (as I no longer have a Charge 4) but I *think* you won’t have to update. It looks like they have added in the option to skip the update to make switching between devices a little bit simpler.

I just saw your response. Thank you for taking the time to experiment for me. I’m feeling a little less anxious now! Thanks for all your help!

I found that the new update removes being able to see sleep quality and sleep time metrics on the watch itself. (Not that it worked anyway)

@amatt135 You say "on the watch" -- are you talking about a Charge 4 here? I have no sleep quality and time metrics on my Charge 4

My Charge 4 shows my sleep score on the device after updating. It's not showing my most recent spO2 figure though - just displays "--" where the value should be. I never look at sleep score or spO2 on my device anyway so that's not a problem for me.
Unfortunately the app doesn't show the spO2 for last night either so this update may have broken that feature for me.

Sadly I find the linked "help article" rather unhelpful. Bland statements such as, "This release includes bug fixes, improvements, and a critical security update." do not tell the customer anything. What should be in a release notice is actually what is being fixed.
Come on FitBit, even Microsoft can manage to do this much. 😁

yes I mean on the charge 4, the previous update broke it for me and now they've flat out removed it from the charge 4.

Oh I see now, found it (never look there, i look for these things on my smartphone)
Oh my Charge 4 (next to last firmware, 1.100.43), the sleep score also shows just "--" and "No Data"
SpO2%does show though.
I am considering the upgrade. But I'd like to find people who did it and had no issues 🙂
I contacted Fitbit about it, and toe guy said it was only a security update, no changes in features. (I find this to be contradictory with other things I've read, so I'm not sure how reliable that info is).

I stupidly did the update, and now my Charge 4 has stopped tracking my sleep! Oh, and it’s now tracking my heart rate when I’m not even wearing it during the day! Go figure.

That happened after the most recent update with my Charge 4, too! It’s useless to me now.

It's working fine for me. At first I didn't get any SpO2 data but restarting the tracker fixed that. Now that's working and shows correctly in both the app and on the tracker. Sleep score also shows correctly on the tracker.
I don't see any difference with the new firmware but then I haven't used it much since the update in the sense of tracking exercise.
