New Charge 2

How do I view a map of a walk or run? I do not see the option to view a map on the app dashboard or on the website. I checked the log section on the website as well. I'm so lost.

Thank you

the following works fine:

press the button on my Charge 2... until I get to the walk prompt... then hold it in to begin the walk........

THEN, on my Android phone, I must make sure DATA and Location are on... then, I activate my walk on my cell phone in the Fitbit app:

select Exercise (with running man image) and

select the stopwatch icon in the top corner... then

select the red circle "play" icon to begin tracking for the map.

at end of walk, select pause, then select finish... map appears and is stored.

Alright... It WORKS. There are more options to set your location. I think
that was the problem. The location was United States, but I am living in
The Netherlands. Now my map will be shown in the app, after starting a
walk. I really do think Fitbit must redesign their menu structure btw. 😉

@leklouy your telling us that you use both the app and the Charge 2 to reactors your walk .You should be seeing to records of each walk in fitbits activity. One recorded by the Charge 2 .the other recorded by the app.

I would try a walk using only one method, the another walk using the other method.

If I don't use the phone app, I don't get the map, ever. However, I have not tried to just use the phone app. I'll try that next to see what happens. In theory, my wrist device is set to automatically recognize I am walking after 10 min of consistent walking. I'll test that theory in the next few days and let you know how it goes.

The auto recogreize will not give a map or report a distance for the walk.

If your phone is an android. And your recording with the app, do not press pause then hit resume. the map will be lost.

Hi everybody, I think some clarifications are needed here regarding the different method to record an exercise with your Fitbit tracker. You can use your tracker only and it will detect the steps normally. If you perform a step based activity (and other activities like elliptical or biking) for a certain amount of time consistently then your tracker will automatically detect it, this is called SmartTrack. If you use the Fitbit app this is called MobileRun and the few options there (run, hike and walk) will have a GPS map. You can also use the Connected GPS option which is using your Charge 2 linked to your phone to track an activity including a map. This last option is what I believe most of you are interested in using so here are the instructions to set it up correctly:

  1. On your tracker, press the button until you get to the Exercise screen.
  2. Tap to find the exercise of your choice.
  3. Press and hold the button to start the exercise. If you see a phone icon at the top, that exercise offers connected GPS and your phone is connected to a GPS signal. If the phone icon has a line through it that means your tracker is not connected to your phone or your phone is not connected to a GPS signal. If the phone icon has an animated dashed line next to it, that means your phone is trying to find a GPS signal. If your phone is running the Android 8 operating system, make sure the Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background. For more information, see Why is the Fitbit app sending a notification to my Android phone?

  4. During your workout, tap your tracker to scroll through your real-time stats or check the time of day.
Note: During exercise your progress toward your maximum heart rate is shown on an indicator next to the number of beats per minute
  5. To pause your workout, press the button. Then press the button again to resume the exercise.
  6. When you’re done with your workout, press and hold the button to stop recording. You’ll see a flag icon and a congratulatory message.

  7. Press the button to see a summary of your results. With each button press you’ll cycle to a different set of stats. You can view your exercise summary one time.

Sync your tracker to store the workout in your exercise history. There you can find additional stats and see your route if you used connected GPS.

Make sure that your phone is listed as compatible to ensure a smooth experience but you can try even if your phone doesn't show there. The list is for devices that have been tested but many phones do work.

@Rich_Laue thank you for helping so much in this thread.

Let me know how it goes!

Just a heads up your arm and your phone app track it together when your using the app after you use the map it will calculate the both of the app and your fitbit is numbers to add up what youve walked.

But do you have to actually start a walk/hike exercise for it to track? I wish it would just track it when it auto recognizes that you're walking/hiking

YES you have to "Start" the walking/hiking by pushing the little stopwatch
icon in the right upper corner. AND THEN, check that you have GPS on, also
in the right upper corner as well as you bluetooth.

Really too messy, so I have stopped to map my walks. Which is a pity, but
this because Fitbit has made it so difficult.

@Toipi your explaining how to track using the Fitbit App

@ChelseaMcD is asking about using the Charge 2 to track with GPS.

However the answer is still yes, to get a map, the walk recording will need to be manually started.

How long before it times out? I walked into a store and didn't know to pause it, so I didn't get the map for the rest of my walk.

Yes you have to start it by pushing the button on the watch itself. I
really would like to see Fitbit starting routing automatically when it sees
I am walking, hiking, etc.

U definitely won't get the map if u pause it (I found out the hard way)
just let it keep running (ur time won't b accurate but I guess that's a
small milestone-I'm just interested in miles when using the map) anyhoo,
I've noticed that once I'm done, I close out the app then go back in a lil
while later (just a few minutes) & the map appears... hope this helps...
