I just got my second fitbit charge 2. I loved the first one but it got lost on vacation . I just took the new one out of the box and it will not turn on. it is dead. When I charge it, it does not respond. Any recommendation before I return it and find another brand?

Let me help you with your unresponsive Charge 2. Charge it by plugging it for a couple of hours directly to your computer's usb port (try different ports) or use an UL listed usb wall adapter. After this, restart your device and see how it behaves.
