One Fitbit and two users

I am finding this FitBit somewhat less than I expected, although people here may say I have unreasonable expectations.

I'm not spending another amount of money for another FitBit, as we run on different schedules and only need one.  Now I'm even wondering if I should have gotten this one.

So I don't care how difficult it is, but it must be possible to put a FitBit on one account, then remove it from the account, and then put it on another account.  Then remove it from the second account and put it back on the first account.

It is a bit upsetting, as I'm sure there are even individuals who'd want to track their running on one account, and bicycling on another account.

I'm hoping this can be done.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums @sub3marathonman

It is very much something you can do. Each of you will need your own email address/account to make it work.

Person #1 uses the device and syncs it.

Person #2 sets it up as a new device on an existing account and goes for a run. Returns home and syncs it.

Person #1 then puts it back on their account and takes off.

Always remember to sync before handing the Fitbit off to the next user.

You can do this!

Happy stepping and running.

Thank you very much Odysseey13.

I'm such a dinosaur that I'll be needing to learn about the syncing process.

I think I understand, but does it automatically get deleted from Person #1's account as soon as Person #2 sets it up on their account?  And just from the initial impression, this sounds like a fair bit of time each time with the FitBit accounts.

What I'm not sure of, can't either person sign in to their FitBit account, and then sync the FitBit?  Is it really that it has to go back and forth between being registered each time?  Why couldn't I lend mine to somebody on occasion and they could have it sync to their account for that time?

I do admit that I'm completely unfamiliar with this, I even had to look up about doing the syncing.  I thought it would connect with the computer through the little USB hookup, but that is only for charging?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!  I didn't think it would be so complicated, and maybe it isn't for non-Luddites. 🙂

@sub3marathonman  the reason for the extra steps required to do it is that the device pairs to the email address. You can't just share the Fitbit, since you're using different accounts. You could share the account and the device, but it would be harder to keep the running times where you'd know which one was yours and which one wasn't.

That is exactly what I object to.

It should be the account pairs to the FitBit, so if I'm signed in to one account, it sees the FitBit, everything is great, I log out of one account, sign into the other account, it sees the FitBit, and everything should be great.  Somewhat, even if I'm logged into both accounts, and both see the FitBit, the data sent by the FitBit should then be recorded in both accounts.

A warm welcome to the Community @sub3marathonman! I totally understand your point about the easier your process seems to pair Fitbit trackers to the account. However, as @Odyssey13 mentioned the process to actually being able to use one device for two people is to set it up every time the other person will use it and remove it from the account, when the next person will track its data.

I'm not exactly sure if the data that will sync will be correct every time, because you'll unpair it and pair it almost 2 or 3 times a day.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi @Loganbull  this thread began July 2017, so it's a bit old. What exactly is going on with you?

You must have different emails and accounts, but you can share one phone to sync. Is that it?

@Loganbull  Which phone do you have and is it on the list of compatible devices? click to see

Do you have two different Fitbits for yourself or are you sharing a Fitbit with another person?

@Loganbull  could you give more information? It's a bit confusing. Tell me which you're doing: you have one Fitbit and two accounts for yourself OR two people are sharing one Fitbit

The more we understand, the better to help you with this. Which iPhone do you have and is it on the list of compatible devices?

One Fitbit per account. You can't have two accounts for one Fitbit. You can, however, view and sync the one Fitbit to more than one device. Example: I can view my data via my computer,  old S4 Samsung, my LG tablet or my usual phone S8 Samsung. You could go to any computer and see your history by logging in.

You must have at least iOS 12.2 for it to be considered compatible.

Hello, I've seen you recently (within last year) have responded to someone else about this topic so i'll give it a try too.

I bought a Versa 3 for my wife, but she will use it mainly for Google Assistant and NFC Payments (maybe also some notifications) so she cannot sleep with any device on her hand.

At the moment I'm using an Amazfit Pace to track my sleep, so I thought I can use Fitbit's much better sleep detection algorithm if that Fitbit will be unused during night.

Is it possible to use the hardware (Versa 3) and sync with both accounts like you mentioned earlier (earlier=last decade - LOL) and keep history of it? Or the data from second account will be deleted every time I set up Versa 3.

There could be a 2nd option, to set up the same account and I know that sleep tracking is mine and everything else is her. Maybe this is more simple.

Also, that topic was about Charge 2, this is Versa 3. Any differences or the process is the same?

Thanks!
