My charge 3 registers steps with slight arm movement. When I have paperwork at work and sit, the number of steps increases at the slightest movement. In this way, all values become misleading.

You fitbit tracks steps by looking for movement of the fitbit i.e. your wrist, and then trying to work out whether that movement was the result of a step or just random arm movement. It's not a precise science and it sometimes gives a few extra steps (and sometimes misses a few). Here's what Fitbit have to say on the subject:
"Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats"

What I do is to not worry about a few steps here and there and focus more on the trends. Of course, if you are getting thousands of steps at your desk then that could indicate a problem.

Thanks for your reply.
The thing is that I can wake up with about 300 steps and achieve 10,000 steps during my working day ... without really walking that much. Have also looked for advanced settings in the app without finding it. There I thought if you would try to change the value of the step length to something that fits one .. for example, calculate the length using steps taken at 100 meters, but it may not change anything.

It is possible to update your stride length but this only affects the distance tracked, not the step count (distance = steps x stride)
One thing you could try is to wear it on your non-dominant wrist but update the settings to say you are wearing it on your dominant. This will decrease the sensitivity and therefore reduce the number of steps. It's not something I recommend though as you may get under recording of your exercise but if you can't live with the current results it may be worth experimenting with.

For fun, you can try the dominant arm ... just to see the difference. Thanks for your help 👌
