When I end my walking exercise, is there a way for me to see the average and maximum heartrate during that exercise. I want to be able to record both on a spreadsheet to monitor my progress.

Hello there @211Holly, welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided.
I'd recommend taking a look at the following articles: What are heart-rate zones? and How do I export my Fitbit account data?

My reading of the answer from Fitbit is that it is not possible for Fitbit to record maximum heart rate during exercise. That is a serious limitation of the device and a real disappointment for we users. Plus, the answer from Fitbit was not direct and avoided clarity. The correct answer from Fitbit should have been “No, the Fitbit Charge 4 does not record maximum heart rate during exercise” You literally need to be watching it happen real time: max is NOT recorded.

Hey @211Holly and @AtlUser99, this is certainly possible! You see the max heart rate as max bpm on the details of the exercise in the Fitbit app. Choose heart rate in the top menu when viewing an individual recorded activity and check max bpm a bit down on the screen.
