Requiring encryption - fitbit charge 3

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I recently realized that the reason my fitbit wasnt getting texts sent to it is because a recent update is defaulting my device to require encryption and I cannot change this. Part of why I got this fitbit is for texts to be shown on my device. Why is this required? I should have the option to not require encryption. I there a way to change this? Bc if not, a new update needs to be put out there to make that optional again.

Is there a possibity that FitBit devices are non-compliant with California's new law SB-327 Information Privacy: Connected Devies?

It's possible that, since compliance was required starting Jan 1, 2020, that the security features are required by the Samsung/Android OS, so they are doing their due dlligence, but Fitbit is behind.

This article outlines devices that need to be compliant with the new law. It doesn't matter if you live in California, it only matters that you sell a product in California.

This definition potentially captures a whole range of equipment, including:

  • Copy machines
  • Printers
  • Fax machines
  • VoIP-enabled phones
  • Televisions
  • Bluetooth headsets
  • Cash registers (point-of-sale terminals generally)
  • Handheld barcode readers
  • Smart thermostats
  • Keycard readers (for doors)
  • Security cameras
  • Light bulbs
  • Environmental control panels
  • Lab equipment
  • Medical diagnostic equipment
  • Warehouse inventory scanners
  • Refrigerators
  • Personal fitness monitors
  • Wristwatches (iWatch)
  • Armbands
  • Glasses
  • Connected vehicles

Notice, personal fitness monitors are included within the scope of this law. It includes any device that can connect directly to the internet via ethernet, WiFi, or bluetooth, even if it has to pair with another device.

Let the games begin!

I have the latest version of the app and have the same issue. I don't get text notifications on my FitiBit since last month. I've tried everything on the books.

I have the same issue. I have the latest version of the fitbit app and my Samsung s10 is updated to version 10, which I'm assuming is the latest.  I also have the device so I can receive messages while I am at work and not allowed to have my phone on me.

Hi @Cathy4639 , thank you for your reply and screenshot provided. This will help me investigate further.

I'm forwarding your information to research and will let you know once I receive more information.

Hello @Tburgardt , thank you for your comment and for reaching out to our Support Team.

I requested information about your case and was told that they investigated and troubleshooted with you the situation of not receiving the notifications. As we are here discussing the situation of the grayed out option for the encryption, could you please confirm if you are having the situation? If so could you please add a screenshot too to your answer? This will help our team investigate why on your S10 you cannot change the status of the option.

I'll be expecting your reply!
