Sleep tracker says I'm awake when I'm not

  • Hello everyone. I'm having an issue with sleep tracking. Most nights it shows me awake for almost one hour periods while I'm actually sleeping. You can see two nights that did this in the picture. On Monday I added in the hour that it showed me awake when I was actually asleep. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'd love some advice. I reboot my device and it seems to be ok for a couple days and then it starts doing it again. 20200520_092326.jpg

When you go into your sleep data and look at your sleep stages, it explains it to you. Awake,REM,Light and Deep sleep are all tracked. “It’s typical to see 10-30 awake times each night - but because some of these moments are so short, you may not even remember them“. If you reset your device and it “seems to be ok” it perhaps because your not in fact getting a detailed sleep analysis because it takes a few nights sleep to record more accurate data. So it’s normal to be “awake” even while your asleep.

  • I don't think you understand what I'm saying or I didn't explain correctly. I understand the sleep stages. I've had my device and been tracking my sleep for over a month so my sleep data is a detailed analysis. If you look at the picture that I added, the top day shows me being awake, or no sleep data, from 2:10 - 3:36 am. I was sound asleep during this time period. This is what my fitbit does every few days. It consistently is showing no sleep data making it seem like I was awake, for at least an hour on these nights. Does that make more sense?

I see what you mean now. Maybe if too loose it’s moving while you sleep and sensors think your awake. Maybe talk to CS to help

Mine does too and I even made sure the sleep sensitivity was on normal like they recommend, it still does that though.

My Charge 4 contradicts itself. Every night the REM/deep sleep chart shows much less awake time than the Time Asleep figures stated, the ones shown first in the sleep log. It can vary so that the Time Awake recorded minutes can be twice as much as the Awake time shown on the Deep/REM line. Last night it showed Time Awake 55 mins, but then Awake (shown in red on the chart)  35 mins. This happens every night.

My friend had the same problem. He never got it to work so he finally through out his tracker. It seemed to be related to him moving in his sleep enough that the tracker assumed he was awake. Sometimes it would indicate that he didn't fall asleep until 3 or 4am when he had gone to bed by 1am.

I go to bed regularly at 9:30PM -10PM.  my tracker does not record me sleeping until 2:30pm on most nights, I know I am asleep.  I have done all the things to reset, but it still does it 3-4 nights of the week.     This is frustrating.

If you’re solidly asleep for hours, and your Fitbit says otherwise, it isn’t because you’re using your device incorrectly. The frank truth of the matter is that Fitbit just isn’t a particularly good technology. At best, it’s finicky and unreliable; at worst, it’s completely misleading. But since the manufacturers already have your money from the purchase, their motivation to make a better product is precisely zero.

I must strongly agree with Bograh. Fitbit did replace my watch once - to no avail. Basically, if you move your arm a lot while fast asleep, these watches will register you as awake when you are dead to the world. If you complain, you will be told to change the sensitivity setting. When that does not work, you will be asked to change the position of the watch on your wrist, to tighten it, loosen it,  place the face of the watch under your arm. If that does not work, you should restart the watch. If that doesn’t work, you should do a factory reset, which sometimes can be a nightmare (I’ve done one three times). If that does not work, you may be told you didn’t do the reset properly. Oh, by the way, did you check the sensitivity setting? How are you wearing the watch?
You are essentially paying for a waterproof watch and pedometer that will give you a reading of your heart rate. My Fitbit Sense has an ECG app, which is lretty good, albeit not 100% reliable (devices with one or two leads — as opposed to six or more— have limitations  Note that I lost my watch on a plane at Heathrow, because it fell off my wrist - a faulty band. A friend recovered it a week later.
