Software fix for overcounting?

Has Fitbit released a software fix for step overcounting that I’ve missed? I just started wearing my Charge 2 3 weeks ago after it sat in a closet for a year. Its step counting was reasonably accurate at first, +/-a few % of my iPhone’s count. Over three weeks, according to the charge 2, I’ve tripled my steps and distance to 3 miles per day. NOT. No changes in lifestyle. Supposedly I have doubled then tripled my first week’s steps and distance, which is bull***t. The iPhone shows roughly the same number of steps throughout.

Today, I sat in meetings in the same conference room for 8 hours. Supposedly I walked 8,763 steps while sitting still!   I have switched my dominant hand settings, adjusted the distance from my wrist bone, removed all other exercise tracking, all solutions mentioned in these forums.

Since none of these solutions have worked, not just for me but for multiple postings on this forums, when will Fitbit update the software controlling it? I like it’s form and weight, was about to buy a fancy wristband for it, but it’s primary function doesn’t work. I am incredibly frustrated.

@Ann330 Welcome! Thanks for being part of our Community! Sorry to hear that your tracker is over-counting your steps. Your tracker will detect the movement on your arm and translate that movement into steps. There are situations in which your arm may move but you won't be actually walking. For example this may happen when you are playing the drums, burping a baby or clapping. It can also happen when driving. You can negate these steps by logging a driving activity. You can try wearing your tracker on your non dominant hand but select that hand as dominant on the tracker’s settings to make it less sensitive to movement.

Let me know how it goes!

Alvaro,

I had already set my non-dominant hand (left) to “dominant” to decrease the sensitivity. As I had previously stated.

Your other “solution” is to have to set the Charge 2 to be “driving” all the time.  As I had previously stated, I sat in all-day meetings. I did get up twice, walking no more than 200 feet. We’ll call that 2000 steps. According to your answer, it detected 8763 (according to the screen) steps -2000= 6763 steps from tapping on my iPad.

Friday was not the only day it had a problem. As I said previously, the Fitbit has been miscounting more steps every day. The problem is accelerating.

How one do I return this and to get a replacement, or a software update, to fix the problem?
