What about the charge five? I’ve had my Fitbit for almost three weeks now and just today am I learning about this. On my way home from work today, I was in the middle of driving, already half way there, and my Fitbit vibrated and told me I reached 10,000 steps. How am I suppose to know which steps are mine? And which are driving? 😞 ❤️

Clip on trackers, wo n on the hip, are less likely to detect steps, because the car seat and bodies weight smooths out the bumps
Arm based trackers, that being mounted on the arm, can not directly count steps. But looks at atm movent to guess at what the feet are doing and may be deceived

And yet, many other wrist worn models within the Fitbit line and others don't have this issue.

from racking up steps. I put it on my waist, in the cup holder, tried
holding it steady...NOTHING worked. Then I had to get that annoying 3rd
party app that you can't close down at all while driving. WHY should I have
to install and deal with a 3rd party app when fitbit could easily fix the
issue?? The whole experience was so frustrating!!!! They clearly don't care
about their customers or creating a top of the line product.

3000 steps during my 15 minute drive to work. Thousands more while driving my patrol car. Makes the Charge 5 useless. Returning it just like I returned my Charge 3. I'd hoped they'd solved the problem.
They keep adding unimportant nonsense while not fixing this major deal-breaking flaw.
RMA waiting in my email box. Bye Fitbit.

This is a $300 devise for pete's sake! I'm pretty sure it should know I'm not walking or running 35 miles an hours. if it can't know, at a minimum, there should just be a quick onscreen button to turn off or on counting.

Well don't cheat yourself out of calories burned while driving because you do burn calories while doing so. Not as many doing other things but you are using energy and burning calories. i found these on the net.
Calories Burned Driving | Calculator & Formula
LAST UPDATE: September 24th, 2020
The average person will burn 150-250 calories per hour driving a car and 80-130 calories per hour as a passenger.
The number of calories burned driving will depend on your weight and whether you are driving or a passenger. A 200-pound (90.7kg) person will burn 239 calories per hour driving and 124 calories as a passenger. A 150-pound (68kg) person will burn 179 and 93 calories per hour doing the same activities.
Calculator
Weight |
lbs kg stone |
Hours |
Minutes |
Riding in a car or truck | 1.3 | 266 |
Riding in a bus or train | 1.3 | 266 |
Flying an airplane or helicopter | 1.8 | 369 |
Driving delivery truck, taxi, shuttle bus, school bus | 2 | 410 |

You're also burning calories while asleep. I think what most people are trying to keep track of is active calories. Driving does not count.

Good day .. so I have been reading through the posts.. and I believe the main point is we dont want to have to change or log driving time.
An example .. I have many badges .. however Im a longhaul truck driver and I promise you i dont use my feet. Recently I was up doing the ice roads and apprently in the 15 hours I drove minus some walking time I earned 3 badges.. apprently I walked 60 thousand steps that day.
Should I have to stop every day and go in and log driving time ? Each and every time Ii drive . Imo Its kinda pointless ?
However I like the fit bit and it has other features i enjoy. but so do other companies.
Samsung health you can change the step sensitivity yet not compatible to Fit bit.
In the end its still on my wrist and i still use it was going to upgrade.. but what is the point ?
Thats all I really have to say about the step sensitivity issue.
Hey ay least I get badges for doing nothing lol
Regards Tony

@BlackStar269 Other models do have this problem. What's happening is moderators tend to move their posts to the suggestions forum. People have been asking for a stop step count option for years. The posts on here are being left in plain sight as moderators don't cover this forum much they only bother about the latest models so those posts are the ones seen and moved.

No way to register that this doesn't work for me. No way to say that this isn't the answer. No way to say this is the worst possible solution to this problem. It doesn't work because Dashboard > Log > Activities doesn't exist. Also if I edit the details of the activity it auto logged, there is no means whatsoever of editing steps nor calories burned, nothing. If I change the activity to driving, it changes nothing, as if driving is stepping. Apparently the activity type is irrelevant. If I delete the activity altogether, still, the steps remain. I'm not in a car, I'm on a motorcycle, so no, I don't want to charge it while I'm riding.

As a driver who drives for work this fitbit is completely useless to me. Wanted a fitbit to track the limited steps I take each day, I'm a driver but it consists of enough stops with some movement. Unlike long haul. So taking it on and off every time is not an option, unless I plan to do so thirty X a day. Same goes for charging while driving. Which destroys the charging port over time btw so this is an awful piece of expert advise. Considering this thing tracks steps while driving the main reason I bought it , is the main flaw of it. Its a complete joke. This is no "solution" if you charge it every time you drive it completely degrades the battery/charging port.

Genuinely can't believe that's the " expert advise "
No electronics experts solution is ever to " charge it even if it doesn't need it "

Honestly realizing the same thing. These things are highly flawed. So **ahem**ing disappointed. Why is it just after buying it am I finding out that steps are counted every time you sneeze?

This is **ahem**. These are **ahem** solutions for a supposed good product. This is **ahem**. Literally all of the solutions to such a ridiculous problem are so ridiculous. Nobody should have to wear their watch on a offhand while sneaking around the settings nor should anyone have to remove their fitbit when driving to not have steps counted. Charge it while driving to prevent this problem? Terrible electronics solution , to just charge it all the time is AWFUL expert advise. This forum along with the product have entirely turned me off from Fitbit and I JUST bought one.

It's not worth full price if you have to jump through hoops to use the product the right way. I hope the FitBit brand gets completely ruined by its inauthenticity of its product
