In my experience, to stop an exercise, you have to first press the inductive button on the left of the Charge 3. This will pause the exercise. Then you have to press and hold the inductive button to finish the exercise. Then you should see an exercise summary. Use the touchscreen to scroll down to view all your summary stats and then press the checkmark on the display to get back to the main user interface.

I can start run, but neither tapping the screen nor pushing the button will stop it, so the activity is not recorded.  How can I correct this?

This sometimes works for me; but, not always.  I've pushed it once and paused it then pushed and held and I keep getting a screen that says Screen Wake/Notifications.  I've done it over and over and keep getting the same result.  Most days it works as it's supposed to; but, there was one other day that I had this same problem.  It eventually worked after trying over and over.  I probably need to restart my fitbit but figure if I do that, I'll lose the tracking of the workout I just did.

Thanks for your reply. It works now.

That doesn't work on my Charge 3. I have been pressing the button, then holding the button, and all I get is "Screen Wake/Notifications." WAIT! After 20 or 30 attempts I finally see a screen with a record button, then was able to press the side button to get to Stop. Very frustrating. This after I spend five days trying to get my walks to record before discovering I needed to START the walk, since it would not auto start. This is way too many steps for something that is supposed to be automatic.

There aren't very many steps, @NapaBill.  To start the Walk exercise tracking, tap the screen to turn it on, scroll left to the Exercise screen and tap on it, tap on Walk to open it, and tap again to start the activity. To end the activity, Press & Release the side button (once or twice) to pause the exercise, and press & release it again to display the Finish screen. Tap on Finish and the exercise is stopped.

It is kind of automatic. It is if only if you want to track the walk very precisely (with GPS and stuff) you need to go for the track this exercise option.

No. As I said, tapping or pressing the side button does not get the response you predict. This piece of tech is probably getting returned by the end of the month if things don't start to work. I thought this thing was supposed to detect my activity but it does not, and I can't get it to stop once I have manually activated it. Not even getting into the heart rate being wildly wrong.

If you do not get the responses described above by pressing the side button or tapping the display, can you explain what responses you do get? That will help us troubleshoot the problem.

As I said above, many times I get the "Screen wake/notification" screen when I push the button the second time instead of the finish screen.  A few times I've had to repeat the process 20-30 times to get it to finally go to the correct screen.  Occasionally it works like it's supposed to.  It's really frustrating.

Thank you! I've found it so frustrating not to be able to stop tracking exercise and end up with it also showing my drive home! Hopefully I'll remember how to stop my yoga this evening.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying to press and hold to stop tracking an exercise.  That's how it worked on the Charge 2 but not on the Charge 3.  If you look in the manual it says:

6. When you're done with your workout or want to pause, press the button.

7. Press the button again and tap Finish to end the workout.

8. Swipe up to see your workout summary.

9. Tap the check mark to close the summary screen.

If you press and hold you're just going to get to the Screen Wake and Notifications screen every time.

Thank you. That makes sense!

Thank you.  I guess you're right.  I wonder if the Accepted Solution above can be reworded so it's correct.

If possible, may I suggest you modify your post to not include the words "and hold"?

Users are getting confused.

Other than that, the instructions are perfect.

I have a Charge 3 and also can’t always get it to stop ( even doing what you have suggested) the only way to stop the exercise every time is to change the clock face and  then that stops the exercise. Not very satisfactory!

Did you see the correction to the "Accepted Solution" that says not to press and hold the button to stop it?  Just quickly press it twice and it should stop it.  Then tap finish on the face.  It's worked well for me since that step was clarified.  Hope it helps you too.

I get that it is necessary to press the side button twice to get to the "Finish" button. It works fine when I'm sitting at my desk. After a run however (sweaty fingers maybe?) I can't push quickly enough to avoid the Screen Wake/Notifications screen. Four out of five times it goes to the Screen Wake page, instead of the pause restart button. If the first press gets me to the pause restart button, then the second press will get me to the Finish button. But most days it goes to the Screen Wake page. Then I have to wait to get out of that page, so it becomes useless for timing a run. I've been trying for 5 months to figure it out. Until someone gives me a clue, I'm using another app to time runs.
