Tracking workouts on Charge 3

On my Charge HR, I could press the button at the beginning and end of my workout at the gym (I go to a Circuit Fit class where we do many things including running, weights, burpees, etc), and the app would capture the stats during that time. I just got the Charge 3 and it doesn't seem to have that feature, and none of the pre-loaded exercise functions match what we are doing. I really liked to be able to see the impact of my workout - calories burned, steps, etc bundled like that. I would love for there to be an option just for exercise where it would just log the stats on the Charge 3. Thanks for considering this idea!

Yea - thank you so much. The instructions on-line are so poor and often make no sense.

You made my day with this simple set of instructions! Hooray.

Thank you!  That was life changing lol.  They should really word their instructions differently when they say app it makes you think smartphone.

I don't see "Exercise Shortcuts" anywhere on my Charge 3. So far, I hate this thing. I cant change the auto recognized exercises. I can't include spinning. I can't get rid of swimming. I just rode my spin bike for 20 hard minutes and I can't find the results anywhere.

WHERE is the exercise shortcuts to select? It's NOT on my fitbit app for my charge 3

To get to the menu to change the exercises available on your Fitbit, first select the picture of the Fitbit in the upper left hand corner of the app. (It looks grayed out but is clickable.) Then choose your device under Devices. Under General choose Exercise Shortcuts. You can have up to seven exercises here and won't be able to add others if you already have seven. To do so you'll need to first delete one by swiping left on it. Once there's room to add another exercise a plus symbol will appear in the upper right hand corner. Click on this to access the list of exercises that can be added.

With the help of another Fitbit user I finally figured out exercise. It’s not as easy to log as it was on the charge HR which I used to use, but it is doable.

On the Fitbit app on your phone, click the icon at the top left corner and go to the charge 3. Scroll down to exercise shortcuts. There you can delete the ones you don’t want and add the ones you want. If you want them in a specific order, delete them all and then add them in the order you want them to show up.

On your Fitbit, on the main screen with the time on it, slide left and you’ll see an icon that says exercise. Tap on it and slide left again and you see the various types of exercise you have set up in the app on your phone. select the exercise you want, click it again to start, and when you’re finished push the button on the side or your Fitbit twice. If you want to pause it, click once. Tsp on the icon to finish. Then push the button on the side of your Fitbit again which get you back to the exercise icon, swipe right to get back to the time. Pretty cumbersome and a lot of steps but at least it lets you select the exercise and log what you’re doing.

When I am doing spin it doesn’t record steps so I take my Fitbit off and tuck it in the leg of my bike shorts.

I’ve also found that if you’re doing any kind of consistent exercise it will log the exercise after 10 minutes of activity. Once the activity is logged, you can go into the app on your phone and change the type of activity and lengthen it or shorten it if you feel that the Fitbit wasn’t accurate.

I hope this helps. It’s taken a while to figure out-but I’m getting used to it.

So, brand new charge 3... just used it for a weight workout for the first time. I started the workout on my band and then stopped it when i was leaving the gym.  It showed me my cals burned and said "nice job" so I know the band recorded the workout.  About a 10 minute ride home and then checked the FB app and was showing 0 active minutes for today.  How?  The workout does show up in the exercise section but how is that not considered active?

I've just gotten a replacement Charge 3 from Fitbit and it doesn't work like my previous one did, even though I assume it's the same model (it's a replacement - was under warranty.) Now, my app does not have an 'Exercise Shortcuts" option. It just has Exercise - when i tape on that, I get a list of exercises that are auto-recognized.I want to be able to start & stop the exercise myself. Also, it only gives "Aerobic Workout" and I'm doing a mix of aerobic and weight lifting. I want plain workout as an option.

I have “workout” picked as one of my automatics, but I don’t ever get it tracked or have data. I liked the ability to hard start and track with my Charge 2.
