Treadmill step differences

While on the treadmill, I've noticed the distance tracked on the treadmill vs my fitbit is always drastically different. Last night my treadmill distance was half a mile more than my fitbit distance while doing a two mile walk. Is there a reason for this?

Distance on treadmill is calculated by Fitbit as stride length times number of steps.

1. Number of steps - if you are holding hand rail with Ftibit hand, those steps probably are not detected.

2.  Stride length - the default stride Fitbit assigns t you might not be correct.

See How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?
