Make sure that you have the latest firmware, which will buffer to the phone and may take up to 2 days.
Once the phone has the firmware, you will be notified to install said firmware.
Now settings should work.

Hello! I recently purchased a FitBit Charge 4. I seem to be unable to open the settings app when I swipe left all the way over to it. When I click on the settings app, the screen becomes unresponsive and freezes. It then turns off in a bit and stays unresponsive to any presses to the side of the device for about 30sec. The screen then turns on automatically after the 30sec and behaves normally other than the settings app: which still doesn’t work.

This is the graveyard forum for old Charge devices. If you need help with the newer Charge 4 you will probably have better luck in the Charge 4 forum.

Hope they can help you there.

You can restart the Charge 4 by putting it on charge and then pressing and holding the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. Release the button. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.

Hi SteveH, I have the same issue. Have reset twice using this method with no luck. Cannot open settings on the watch. Any other ways to factory reset?

@Teag.an the only way I know to do a factory reset (instead of a restart) on the Charge 4 is via the settings app. As this is not an option for you all I can suggest is that you try customer support via contact.fitbit.com

I literally bought mine Friday and connected it today. Same issue and it won't let me do the charge cord/button hold reset either. I'm going to keep trying but VERY frustrating.

Hi everybody! Thanks for your messages and letting us know about this situation.
@SteveH @Rich_Laue , thank you for your help and tips.
To everybody else: We would like to have a closer look at this.
Could you please provide us with the following information:
- What is the main situation?
- Is the tracker frozen?
- The Settings app does not start? Do other apps start?

What mobile device are you using to sync your tracker?
Please in the Fitbit app go to your profile picture>help. As title you'll see the app version you have installed. What version do you have?
Then go to your profile picture>Charge 4 . Below the title you'll see the firmware version of the tracker. What does it say?
I'll be expecting your reply

Hi JuanFitbit, the tracker freezes when I tap setup. When I tap weather app the tracker says that no data are available and I need to sync. I'm using a galaxy s9+, Fitbit app version 3.34.1(20243542), firmware version 48.20001.94.13

Thanks, I ve read on other forums that we had to wait for 3 days for the last update to be installed on the charge 4 even if it says it s installed.
Indeed, today everything was fine until the update.
After rebooting my phone, the fitbit app proposed me the update again. So did I, and now it works.
