Hello @Rich_Laue , HOW do I get the latest firmware? I know I have the old firmware but I can't find instructions on how to update to the new one.

What did not work @AlHansen
Did you give a couple of days after setting up the Charge 4 for the firmware to be buffered to the phone?
Where you able to install the firmware to the Charge 4?
If so, then settings, clock changes, etc should be a available.

Swipe to setings - help *- about.
Or look under your tracker settings in the Fitbit app.
Or on the web
Is the firmware up to date?

@mirandaenjoost have you waited for the final firmware?
Yes this process may be a pain for some, however these changes where made on the insistence of the Fitbit users wanting to not need a live Internet slurring the firmware install.
Another case of the users getting what they asked for, and not liking it.

Who knows why this would be a user request but you’d think there would be a notification or something to save new users getting pissed off and having to search a forum for the answer? First experience with fitbit and can already say I’m not a fan from the get go.

Settings won't open on the device (they did yesterday - the day I bought it)
Yes, the device freezes on the Weather|Settings screen
The Settings app doesn't start
The Weather app doesn't start
Other apps can be started
No error message

Yes i understand that it is because of user inputs. But Fitbit should change it. I think majority of people will think they have got a product that dosen't work and maybe return it to the store. Hope the update comes to my Fitbit very soon now.

I’m in the same boat as a lot of you. I also tried to remove and re-install the agenda app, but now it won’t let me install it again. Frustrating when you purchase a device hoping to get immediate benefit from it and it is riddled with bugs.
not being able to access settings also means a factory reset isn’t possible.

Hi Rich_Laue,
What is it that you’re suggesting exactly ? That the reason for the wildcard delay in the firmware update is because Fitbit was trying to help users? That some users requested not to do the update via the internet and the other users have to suffer for it?
What exactly is the problem with the update? Is it too large and it can only download at slow speed in the background and it will only prompt users once the download is available? Does the Fitbit app not communicate well with the Fitbit servers to cross reference the firmware version and prompt the available firmware?
i think the users on this thread and half a dozen others on the same topic are frustrated because they’re left in the dark: the only information received is “just wait it out 2 to 6 days”. Fitbit has got to give us more than that. not being able to access the Settings app inside the Fitbit device or the Fitbit app for a number of (unknown) days is pretty unacceptable.
I switched today from Charge 2 to Charge 4 and I didn’t want to believe the negative user reviews online (a 2.9 rating in the largest Swiss online retail store) because I was so happy with Charge 2. But now I fully understand why Fitbit’s users’ satisfaction has plummeted with Charge 3 and now Charge 4.

Hi Jim,
i think the users are frustrated for having to wait un unknown number of days without understanding what causes the delay. Does the app not communicate with the servers to cross reference the need for an update?

It does all that already 🙂
the app is running, phone is connected to internet.
I will blame the delay on a poor communication between the Fitbit app and the servers, which makes it difficult to cross reference the existence of an available update.
I appreciate your patience with us on this thread. Unfortunately, this will have bad consequences on brand new Fitbit users who will forever associate Fitbit with a buggy setup, return their device and leave a two star review online. now that Fitbit was bought by Google, one can hope they will pay more attention to the user experience.

Fitbit users where tired of having to rely on their Internet connection being on during a firmware update tgast may take 10 - 50 or more minutes depending on the their Internet speed.
Users requested that the actual loading of the firmware to be allowed to be installed while the phone is off line.
For this to happen, the firmware needs to be first buffered onto the phone. For me this took less then 6 hours while listening to music and playing YouTube videos.
@AlHansen all you need is the button on the side of the Charge 4 to restart. Simply hold in the button for 8 seconds.
