recording steps while on a treadmill

Is it normal for the Charge 2 to record different step totals on a treadmill.  I do the same period of time at the same speed each day and the total steps are different each day.  Shouldn't they be the same?

If you are holding hand rail, steps might not be detected because the wrist is held steady.  Steps are detected from the normal swinging of the arms as when walking.  If you have to hold hand rail, you can probably get better step count putting tracker in your pocket or pinned to clothing, but will lose heart rate data during that time.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Putting the tracker in my pocket while on the Treadmill seems to work.

Earlier I contact your support when I was having this problem.  They had me restart my Fitbit.  This work for a short period and then it went back to not working.  See case #31866764.
