App is not tracking my sleep data accurately

My Inspire has randomly logged my sleep as completely uninterrupted overnight,  which I know wasn’t due to pain,  my steps have recorded me getting up and walking around twice. It’s so unusual I notice the fault straight away. 10 Hrs vs my usual 5! Anyone else having issues with this?
Update;

still not working correctly, only logged 1.5hrs this morning 27/6 from 6am, added sleep from 11pm but just adds full sleep for this rather than tracked, again I got up more than once and steps were tracked. 😬

update 28/6/25 - logged part sleep on day before and part sleep on this morning. Amended sleep to complete periods I was in bed, it lost the stats for original sleep log and changed to solid sleep between 1.15 to 2.55 even though they were the original part sleep (with stat times awake,  restless & sleep originally). I think I’m done with Fitbit I’ve tried to be patient but it’s getting worse and stats are not reliable anymore.😞

update: 29/6- worked fine as recorded automatically as 1 sleep, the issue is back this morning 30/6 it seems that a change has been made and if it records your sleep in 2,sessions rather than one or if you correct any sessions it records undisturbed sleep rather than the pattern of your sleep. Even when you have recorded steps within the time from sleep disturbance.  Because of this it is now totally unreliable for accurate sleep stats. I am going to try the start sleep function to see how that works out, I’ll let you know.

Still happening 1. No stats solid sleep recorded on app

2. Sleep deleted on App and re-entered manually, stats available from on wrist device and App wildly off as usual.

Since I stopped setting sleep mode, about 35/65 of:

1) it’ll give me what looks vaguely reasonable sleep stats or

2) it’ll be off, I delete and add manually, and it’s pretty much just solid sleep that’s way higher but with no stages 😕

Mine is intermittent, when it does record it with stats, it’s generally broken up into 2 sleeps either a gap in the middle where I definitely didn’t get up! Times between 1am and 3.30 am are regularly missing 🤔 when I add them there are stats available 🤔

Best Answer

What the heck!! that random missing gap makes no sense. Do you ever get up during the night at all?

Just for the loo maybe? I may wake up, briefly turn over go back to sleep, I don’t get up, up.

Same, and I go back to sleep pretty quickly, but sometimes it’ll show me as being awake for a long time and… that’s definitely not right!

As soon as Google bought Fitbit (2021) they seemed to have made the conscious strategy to move from trackers to smartwatches and finished putting out the trackers that Fitbit had in the pipeline, but gave lackluster updates.  When they did an update it only made things worse not better.  Ever since about 2022 I noticed that my Inspire 2 was becoming less and less reliable.  Hundreds of people/replies were added to the forum about tracker issues.  In 2023 I finally gave up and bought an apple watch and tossed my fitbit in the trash. (after I downloaded the 13years of data).  My wife still has her Inspire 2 but it's a complete waste of time trying to get it to keep accurate sleep or step data, it will say she was asleep at 3pm when she's on the treadmill, or not asleep at 3am when she's sound asleep.  There is a zone minute thing that just won't go away no matter what you do.

Anytime you try to get some help from CusSvc it's "that issue is being addressed" (since 2023), or "did you try rebooting" or "delete and redownload", all of the standard it's not our problem, it's a you problem.

I’m not going mad then? Thanks I too will be going elsewhere.

Funnily enough I have another post about steps and one about activity 🤯

Agree - the steps are a mess as well.  When it's opened the app jumps up to some crazy number, then runs back down to a number lower than before it's opened, then runs back up to a number that while not accurate was somewhere in-between the wild number, and the opening number.

Best Answer

Oh geez… I didn’t even consider that about the steps. It’s crazy how hit or miss (mostly miss), wildly varied the sleep readings are

It’s been broken for weeks.  I can’t edit, the chart stays the same.  If I delete sleep and add it shows the crappy chart.  It’s almost like Google is purposely degrading the app.

I really think they are.

I’ve been doing the sleep mode again and I think it’s very hit or miss but…. We shouldn’t have to question the accuracy 🤦‍:female_sign:

I’ve been regularly deleting the sleep recording on the app as no stats and re adding it myself but this overnight really shows how bad it gets 🤯

Ridiculous! Mine went back to 90% inaccurate if “reading” so I delete and manual add most days again

Does it strike any as unusual that after nearly over 4 months and 54 replies, no one from Google/Fitbit has popped in to let us know they hear us and are working on the issue?

After about a month of hit and miss data for my sleep, I finally googled it and landed in the community forum.

I very much appreciate your input and follow up on your original question back in June. I read the thread into your early July postings and then skipped to the most recent posts, and lo and behold, here you are. Five months later, still having the issue but found a work around.

I tried the work around even though, in my mind, intuitively, it shouldn't work. How can you delete generic sleep date then enter it in manually and actually get more specific details?!?!? I don't know, but it worked.

Thanks a million! I have been required to track my sleep for medical purposes and it's hard to give good answers when I KNOW i was awake for a couple hours in the middle of the night but my fitbit doesn't register it. So thankful for your insight!

Now! I have a bit of work to do to get an accurate sleep schedule for the past few weeks. 😱

Not sure if it will work for historic data? mines still be way off all week still deleting and re entering manually.

I’m glad this has helped you! I’m curious to hear your experience in trying with the past data
