Arm movements and step counting

I work in the casino and dealing cards always has your hand in motion. This type of movement counts as steps that aren't accurate. I don't want to have to edit my activity because I don't have time and frankly I don't know when I start or stop moving my hand while I am working. I deal, clear my hands and take and pay chips. I have the settings set to non dominant hand and actually wear it on my non dominant hand. I could wear it on my ankle but that would defeat the purpose for the other features of my Inspire. Are there any suggestions as to how I can use my inspire to its fullest potential and also get an accurate reading on my steps?

Hello @GeeLV and a warm welcome.  First, I want to say that wrist worn trackers can count a lot of arm movements as steps, especially people like you with your job.  My hair stylist gave up on her tracker because she could get thousands of steps before lunch.  Second, the dominant/non-dominant setting changes the sensitivity of the tracker.  You are over counting your steps even more by having it on the non-dominant setting.

If you want to get a more accurate step count, you should think about getting the accessory clip and wearing it on your torso or having it in your pocket using the On Clip setting.  Yes, you lose the watch function at work.  But once upon a time, Fitbit was limited to a torso model and we all wore our watches at work.

Try a little experiment.  Go back to the dominant setting for a day and see what happens.  Then try the On Clip setting in your pocket for a day and see what happens.  I work with my hands, too.  My step count went up by about 1500 steps a day when I went to a wrist tracker set on dominant.  But I understand the limitations of these devices and accept that this does happen.

These are options and I hope you can continue to wear your Inspire and meet your goals.

@GeeLV A warm welcome to our Community!

Let me help you with your step count. As @LZeeW explained you can try wearing your device on your non dominant hand but select that hand as dominant on the device’s settings to make it less sensitive to movement. Also the clip is a better option for the type of work you have as your tracker won't be counting that many steps.

Let me know how it goes.
