Data Download Not Working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Just downloaded account lifetime archive - lost of txt files but very few csv.  Nothing on activity,  Nothing on heart.

Have searched the archives but references to this date from 2017 and claim the problem is solved.

It ain't.

Any suggestions?  Try again tomorrow?

Hello @John.uk

When you requested the download did you select all the items you wanted? (View screenshot)

You can look here at the Fitbit help section on how to properly download your account data. Maybe you missed a step:https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1133.htm

😃 Please let me know if this helped answer your question

Hi

I wanted to export the whole data archive, so no choices to be made.
The custom limit being 31 days and I wanted to extract heart and sleep
data over a much longer period.

When I unzipped, the Heart folder had a single txt document, nothing else.

Physical Activity folder had 3661 .json files which my computer does not
understand.

Sleep did have a CSV file which contains the sleep data for many nights
but nights where I recorded simplified sleep details are missing.

It is this I want to investigate, as other tests show my heart has an
irregular bea.

I have just applied again for the archive as the 24 hours are up.

Hello again @John.uk

I found this step by step article online that I think gives a much better explanation here:https://www.imore.com/how-export-your-fitbit-data Here’s another one to help you analyze the data once you downloaded it:https://randerson112358.medium.com/analyzing-my-fitbit-data-163d341a6cce

😃 I hope your next go round produces better results and this answers your question. Keep me posted

Hi Megabite

Thanks for the references.  Checking the first (imore) I have followed
that process exactly, twice now for an export of the complete archive.
I downloaded  the zip file but the only useful CSV file was under
sleep.  Nothing under Heart or Activities.

My archive goes back to August 2019.   Is that too large a timescale?

What else can I do.

@John.uk I would contact Fitbit Customer Service: https://myhelp.fitbit.com/s/support?language=en_US

Live chat is most likely your best route. You can also go through your Fitbit App. Open the Fitbit app, tap profile picture then scroll down to help & support. Finally tap contact customer support.
🤔Maybe there is a current data download issue but I’m honestly unaware if there is or isn’t. Hopefully they can sort this out for you. I wish I could have been more help but hopefully contacting support can resolve this issue.

Hi MegaBite

Just tried customer chat and it is the worst support contact I have ever
had - with a Keith Lenard

I was referred to the same web page as you had suggested.  I asked why
there was no heart data and was told it is not included despite
Help_article/1133.htm saying it is.  I then asked about physical
activity data and he told me how to open a .JSON file in Notepad, which
I did but it is so detailed you cannot extract anything useful.  He then
closed the chat without so much as a goodbye.

I now see on Trustpilot that Fitbit has 80% one star reviews especially
recently.   i.e awful.

Thanks for your help.

Gosh @John.uk I really disappointed you didn’t get a resolution. I don’t work for Fitbit so I can’t offer a better solution either. I did dig around a bit and found this thread here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/Working-with-JSON-data-export-files/td-p/309862...

This one as well: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/How-to-Read-Exported-Data/td-p/4009455

Lastly check this out as well: https://dataespresso.com/en/2019/02/07/fitbit-json-to-csv/

I’m crossing my fingers that you find something useful there 😃

Hi MegaBite

Thanks for your help and research on my behalf. That post thread is
above my pay grade!

I will try a 31 day extract to see what I get.  As it is the last two
years I am in which I am interested it would only be 24 downloads taking
24 days to do!

It is only heart data in which I am really interested.  I have been
getting simplified sleep details due to irregular heart beat - rather
important I understand the pattern.

Could be useful if I see a cardiologist.

Hello again @John.uk

🤣 Above your pay grade….the jargon is also certainly above my pay grade as well! I’m not sure why the programmers made the extraction of data so difficult to interpret honestly but I fully understand how important it is monitoring your irregular heart beat. The data could be VERY USEFUL to a cardiologist. I do hope you figure it all out.
😉 Good luck to you
