GPS Distance incorrectly overwritten by step calculation

When using a bicycle for exercise, i have my fitbit on, and my phone with the exercise GPS tracking on.  The GPS tracker on the phone correctly measures distance, time, pace, etc.  The fitbit struggles with steps however, and get poor results (if left on my wrist, it recognizes about 50% of the actual steps (which can be measured by putting the fitbit on my ankle).  anyway, my typical route is 10 miles, and at the end, my fitbit dashboard on the app initially will show the correct overall miles traveled up to that point of the day, but once syncing is complete, a step calculation apparently overwrites the actual distance traveled on the bike.  so at the beginning of a sync, i will show 12 miles, but that is then changed to 4 or 5 miles. That did not use to be the case.  is there a setting to prevent the step calculation from overriding the GPS distance when applicable?

Daily distance does not include biking distance, only true step-based activities as walking and running.

If you truly wanted that to count, you could try calling it a "run" instead of "biking", though that might be misleading.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I have the same problem except when running.  After it syncs it will drop from 5 Miles to half that.  It as if it only counts distance from where I started, and it stops counting when I turn around.

that is strange.  my issue was limited to the "Bike" category.  I use the app on my phone, and in my case, the default is walking, so at the end of the exercise if i change it to "Bike", the mileage gets reduced based on the step calculation (but the fitbit does not do well counting steps when riding a bike).  However, i also jog some, so when i categorize it to "Run", then i neither my mileage or steps seems to be affected. i wonder if either your calibration setting is off or are loosing gps signal
