Inaccurate sleep tracking Inspire 2

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Inspire2 sometimes doesn't accurately track when I fall asleep. Last night, I know I slept from about 11:30-1, but it says I didn't fall asleep until about 12:45. This has happened several times. What is causing this, and what can I do about it? Thanks.

I’m having that too, says I slept for 1 hour yesterday from 10:30 to 11 something a.m. which I’m sure is not true

It's been telling me for days that I'm only getting 1-3 hrs of sleep. I know I'm restless, but that's a little much.

Greetings.  I have no idea what causes this, but any time that you look at the recorded start/stop times and see that they are blatantly incorrect, you can fix this by deleting the record and manually entering the correct times.  [That is, assuming you have some idea of what the correct times actually are.]  Most often, with a slight time lag it will then give you your sleep stage data and then give you a sleep score.  Sometimes it will only give you "basic" data, and that means it either wasn't registering the fact that you were asleep OR you were too far "off" in your estimated times.

There is definitely something wrong with the app or with the device's ability to properly communicate with the device.  I don't think Fitbit is doing anything to fix this, unfortunately.

Something this is a little less blunt, I have been having my Inspire 2 missing my "go to sleep time" by about :90 mins.

When I wake up I can open up the app, open up sleep, open up my nights sleep, and then edit it.  I change the start of sleep time to when I really did go to sleep. Usually it shows some sleep stages, 'deep sleep', 'REM' etc.

Try just editing the start time.

Hi there, @Luckystar1952 @NaN7927 and @FishinMommy. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your sleep data.

Nice to see that you're digging into the Fitbit Forum, @InsomniacYes and @chris_in_cal.

As a first approached, I'd recommend to sync your Inspire 2 to the app after waking up. This will help to make sure that all your data is sync properly. Please note if your device detects excessive movement, enough that restful sleep would not be possible, your device records time spent awake.

Also, note that your time asleep is calculated by subtracting your time spent awake and restless from your overall tracked sleep time. For example, if you slept 8 hours but woke up 2 times for 15 minutes each, your time asleep would be 7 hr 30 min.

To learn more about your time asleep in sleep stages, see What should I know about Fitbit sleep stages?

Edit or delete sleep logs in the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope this helps.

That's great generic advice, @YojanaFitbit !  Thank you so much!  Do you happen to know whether Fitbit is aware of the other problem and/or whether they have any plans to try to fix it?

This isn't a problem related to lack of syncing or people not understanding that time asleep is a smaller number than the total amount of time spent in bed.  What is happening is that COLLECTED DATA for the initial or final part of the time spent asleep is not showing up until we delete the record and manually enter a new record with the correct times.  I assure you, syncing the device to the app is not the thing that will fix this.

Here is an example of an occasion when the final 2+ hours time asleep were "lost" until until the record was deleted and a new record made (by entering the correct bedtime and the actual time that I woke up).  I assure you, this did not happen due to some kind of operator error.

@chris_in_cal  Maybe double-check and make sure that it is actually adding new information vs. just stretching things out to fill in a longer time frame.  When I've edited the start time (or end time) rather then deleting it and inputting a new record, the end result didn't look "right" to me.

You are right @InsomniacYes editing the start sleep time doesn't magically show data like I initially thought.   It kills all sleep stage info and just shows basic sleep info. My Inspire 2 seems to do a great job of showing my sleep ended time, and it does a great job of showing some of my sleep stages.  It just does a very inconsistent job showing the time I went to sleep.

Here is some of my experiences, I decided two weeks ago to make a big effort to go to bed right after 10:00 p.m., I usually fall asleep pretty efficiently. All of the following are my "going to sleep" recorded time.   In actuality all of them should be between 10:00 and 10:30.

12:14

10:08

10:17

11:26

10:22

12:58

11:21

10:07

10:37

11:22

12:09

10:30

11:08

10:18

10:45

9:56

11:50

The wake up time for all of these was perfect.

To test:   I very deliberately finished everything and turned all the lights off at 9:50 and quietly read for ten minutes.   At 10:00 sharp I went to bed.  It was a normal night so I believe I was asleep in five or ten minutes.  This morning my Inspire 2 shows:

11:16 p.m. - 5:44 a.m.

Due to it being trash morning (with loud trucks,) the 5:44 is accurate...

Showing my sleep starting at 11:16 is more than an hour late....it was actually 10:05 or so.

@InsomniacYes and @chris_in_cal Thank you both for sharing this information and screenshots.

Can you please confirm if both are having issues only with the first hours of sleep? And if you also noticed any correlation with the start time of your sleep @InsomniacYes.

Your feedback is really helpful for us.

My Inspire 2 seems to be spot on with my wake up time in the morning.   At night going to bed, there are times it seems spot on.

Monday - 10:40

Tuesday - 11:02

Wednesday - 10:52

Thursday - 12:40   ???????   What?

Sometimes it just chops off what seems like my first sleep cycle.

About 30% of the time.
