Inspire HR is adding steps while I'm sleeping??

My fitbit is adding steps while I'm sleeping?? which adds on to the following day.

How do I stop this as making the number of steps inaccurate? Do I simply take it off while I'm sleeping?

@secoates Welcome! It's nice to have you on board!

Let me help you with your Inspire HR counting steps while sleeping. Your device will detect the movement on your arm and translate that movement into steps. There are situations in which your arm may move but you won't be actually walking. For example, this may happen when you are playing the drums, burping a baby or clapping. It can also happen while driving. In this case it may be that when you twist and turn on your bed the tracker is detecting these as steps. You can negate these steps by logging a driving activity. You can try wearing your device on your non dominant hand but select that hand as dominant on the device’s settings to make it less sensitive to movement.

Let me know how it goes.

My device does this regularly too. Today it added 15,470 steps (8.7miles) between 9-915 am. I was moving around a bit at that time but I can assure you that my arm does not vibrate that quickly for any reason and certainly not without my knowledge. Earlier this week I had 4,611 steps between 330-345 am when I was sound asleep. Again I am sure my arm did not wiggle enough in 15 minutes to create this error. I have tried resetting the device, letting it run completely out of battery and then recharging, removing and readding to my app, changing arms, and anything else I can think of. It is not connected to any other apps. Is there any way to delete steps that I know did not happen?

@sdunbar1184 Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.

I appreciate the troubleshooting performed prior to posting. You can’t delete steps and floors; instead, log a non-step-based activity such as driving to override the steps or floors, follow the instructions on this article

Also, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Sometimes, when you start walking, your steps may not update on your device right away. After about 10-15 continuous steps, you'll notice the steps catch up and start updating in real time with each step you take.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I went ahead and added a driving activity to my
fitbit today and it did remove the crazy steps, so THANK YOU, that
definitely helps me get around the issue. Still unclear as to what causes
it but it seems like it has to be a technical issue or glitch because it
almost always happens when I am sleeping or not wearing the device and also
between the hours of midnight and 10am.

Thank you

I have also had the same issue.  This just started happening to me on Fri, 7/30.   My day ended with 24,634 steps!  And on average with my job, I'm luck if I get 5,000.   I watched it jump 3 different times.  I have a feeling there is some software bug going on...

@Brendalicious Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.

May I know if you have MobileTrack added to your account? MobileTrack is a feature that records basic stats such as steps using your phone's sensors if you don't have a Fitbit device available. If there was a fan or anything buzzing nearby, or if your phone was vibrating, that might have caused you to get incorrect steps during that time.

Assuming this is the case, let's try the following steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap MobileTrack:
For iOS devices, scroll down and tap the option to remove the device.
    For Android devices,
tap the trash icon at the upper right corner.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove it from your account.
  4. Once that is done, you can continue syncing your Inspire HR and monitor its behavior in the next days.

Hope this helps.

I had extra steps added on my new Inspire last night.   It added 7602 steps between 515a and 530a, while I was asleep in bed.   Very disappointing that I can't count on accuracy.
