New to Fitbit, had this Inspire HR for about a week. Fully charged, it updated when I did the setup.
It is under counting steps. This happens when I walk around my house and when I walk the neighborhood for fitness. I work from home, pacing my house most of the time and it often doesn't record those steps. I walk my neighborhood 2.5 miles every day at 3.9 mph and it records 3000 steps. I'm not tall - 5'4" and know from experience that I get in app 2300-2500 steps/mi. I do not want to manually enter my stride length as it is longer when walking for fitness, shorter when walking my dog or pacing the house. I've just about decided to use it only for monitoring HR, as it's pretty useless as an activity tracker.

So does anyone know how to correct the issue with steps not being recorded?

No responses, so I contacted FitBit support. They tell me that this is a known bug that they are working on. So I guess the answer is wait for the vendor.

I have this problem too! I have the Inspire not the HR. Lately it isn’t keeping up with my steps. I have had it over a year.
