Inspire step counting issue

I usually don’t track my walks, I just rely on my step counter. But yesterday I was going on a long walk and hadn’t been that way before so I was interested to see how far and how long it would take etc. so I logged the walk, and it told me I did 13.2km, and 13.6k steps. But today, I did 13.5k steps, without tracking, and it says I have done 9km. How can this be that I have done almost the same amount of steps but entirely different distances? And the only difference is that I logged one walk and not the other??

To better assist you with this, can you please let me know when was the first time you experienced this issue and how many times since then? I have had this issue for quite awhile. I always time my walks and it is never the same. My steps are not moving when I am walking. I have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled so many times it isn't funny!
