Hello I just ran a track for a mile (I'm certain of the distance) and in running mode my Fitbit only calculated maybe a quarter of the distance ran. I have it on the correct wrist, it "automatically" adjusted stride, I don't know what else to do

How are you doing my friend @rebekah_apodaca? Welcome!
Thanks for reporting the issues with the number of mile that your Fitbit tracked last time you use it. Thank you also for confirming that you're using it in the correct wrist.
Fitbit devices calculate distance by multiplying your walking steps by your walking stride length and multiplying your running steps by your running stride length. I'd suggest to confirm your running stride length and if it is necessary you can modify it, see How do I measure and adjust my stride length?
If that doesn't help restart your Inspire HR and give it a try again.
See you around.

Let's look at a few things
If you can respond, I'll be glad to help out with this.
The true distance ran:
The either the current stride setting and the distance Fitbit reported.
Or
The steps Fitbit counted for the run.
Ideally we would like data for several runs on different days to get an average.
