Multiple trackers on same account

Hello to the community!

i have a question concerning linking several devices to one Fitbit account. I know it’s been possible to use several fitbits on one account (for daily use and workouts). With Versa and Charge 3 it changed coz they seem to have too similar OS. I was exited therefore to see a new slim tracker - Inspire - but when I chose to set up a new device the app only gave me the option to switch from Versa to Inspire 😞. So does it mean these two are not compatible or does Fitbit still plan at some point to allow the use of both?

Hey friends!

Thanks for calling this out. It was my understanding that Inspire would not be able to pair with Ionic, Charge 3 or Versa. I have forwarded this feedback to our product team and hope to have some clarification soon.

I will let you all know once I hear back from them. Thanks again!

@MattFitbit  the help files have now been updated and say:

"Note that you can't have Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series connected to the same account. If you have any combination of these devices, be sure to have only one connected to your account at a time."

Will there be any effort so that we could purchase Charge 3 and Inspire models when owning a Versa, so that we know our personal daily stats when using several FitBit versions?  I want to purchase them, but if I have to ‘do the math’ to figure out my stats........ugh!

Best Answer

Hi, @doatster , you wouldn't actually have to do any maths, but currently you would have to each time replace the tracker, so if you had both you would need to swap them in and out, and re-set up.  Usually set up only takes a few minutes, but I definitely agree that this extra step is annoying.

I feel fairly certain that the goal will be to allow users to have better multi-tracker experience: for example many people might like to have Versa or Charge 3 for gym/ runs/ workouts etc, and Inspire or Inspire HR for day-to-day -- or any other combination...

My guess is that Fitbit would be working on this, but, of course. I don't know anything officially.

Matt, thanks for participating. It's fairly logical. I have an Ionic and I like GPS coverage for activities plus music. For day to day I would prefer an Inspire HR. I also have a Charge 3 and as a result the Ionic sits in the draw as you can't have them active on the same account. I get it. The tech support that I spoke with said it had to do with the sharing of credit cards. The Inspire doesn't have a credit card facility so it should be able to share with an Ionic. As you see multiple users have multiple devices and this is going to stop them from buying the Inspire. It isn't good marketing by Fitbit. I'm going ahead with my pre order because I want to see if I like it better than the Charge 3. But please work this out. I would rather run my account with a seamless change over from an Ionic to an Inspire.

Hi, @Hatbush, I am sorry that you were misinformed, but this restriction has nothng to do with sharing of credit cards.

Currently the official situation is that all Fitbits that use the "gallery" of watch faces cannot be on the same account together.  Watches that use the gallery are classed as "smart watches" and the current restriction is only one "smartwatch" at a time.

Obviously I have no official information; however, my impression is that Fitbit will want to add flexibility and return, as far as is possible, to the situation where multiple trackers are supported.  But at this time I am pretty sure that no one will have any official information to share.

There are some "work arounds" if you do a search in the community, but none of these is officially supported by Fitbit.

Julia,  really appreciate the hints on what exactly to do so no ‘math’ is involved!

It was already frustrating that you had to choose between the Ionic OR Versa OR Charge 3 on 1 account at a time because they were all considered smart watches with the same app store but now you can't even add the new Inspire/Inspire HR tracker that replaced the Alta to your account unless you remove your (Ionic/Versa/Charge 3) first.

I had previously enjoyed the Blaze, Charge 2, Alta & Flex 2 on 1 account and switched as needed and now I am forced to have my Ionic in the drawer, only use my Versa and now can't order the Charge 3 or Inspire.

Why would Fitbit want to limit its sales by forcing you to only choose 1 of its new devices to order and enjoy?

This is an issue with the OS that these trackers use. It is based on the old Pebble OS that Fitbit bought. Pebble only had one watch so didn't design the OS with multiple trackers in mind. Fitbit is well aware of this limitation. Unfortunately, there is no time frame for when or if this will be corrected. Before the apps were updated you could set up more than one smartwatch on your account but things such as notifications didn't work across all trackers so Fitbit updated the app to prevent this.

@Tags24 Thank you for the feedback. I have moved your post to this thread to help keep the community tidy.

I can confirm what @Julia_G posted is correct.

You can't have Charge 3, Ionic, Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series connected to the same account. If you have any combination of these devices, be sure to have only one connected to your account at a time.

@SunsetRunner Thanks for the help!

Hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you have additional questions.

Just got my inspire HR and wanted to add it in the app in addition to my versa. it now only lets me replace my versa with the new tracker. I'm using the app on an iPhone 8 and already made sure that iOS and the app are up to date.

Unfortunately you have found one of the limitations in having multiple fitbits. They say:

"Note that you can't have Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series connected to the same account. If you have any combination of these devices, be sure to have only one connected to your account at a time."

I am beyond frustrated I currently have a Fitbit versa and a Fitbit Blaze. I just went out and purchased the Fitbit Inspire HR I really like the versatility of being able to switch daily on which watch I wear. I just tried to set up the Inspire HR and got an error message stating that I already have a versa linked to this account I called Fitbit and was told that if you have a versa you cannot link the Inspire HR this is beyond frustrating as nowhere on the box or ads did anything say that. They State the only way I can do this is by linking one and removing the other and switching back and forth or getting a separate email account set up for the other one. That is not an option because I need them all connected to One account because I have my account set up on different Fitness devices and I can't worry daily about if I've linked or unlinked something. I wish Fitbit would have advertise this up front on their product ads as well as the boxes themselves when you're buying them to decide what you want to wear it does no good if I can't use the product when I have another product of theirs so sad but I'll be bringing this one back from the looks of it.

I don't think there's a way round this problem. Fitbit say:

"Note that you can't have Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series connected to the same account. If you have any combination of these devices, be sure to have only one connected to your account at a time."

this is taken from the help file https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1715/ - I agree that they could do more to make this point clear to prospective buyers. There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on their online store either.

I hope you don't have any issues getting a refund from the retailer.

Hello, does any one know if you can have an inspire hr and inspire on the same account? (No other trackers)? Trying to determine if the wording means you can only have one.

Best Answer

Hi, @rcms3, I think the current situation is that you could only have the Inspire OR the Inspire HR, but not both.

However, if yu are happy with the Inspire family, I would suggest just getting the Inpsire HR and wearing it on your wrist when you are able to, and turning off the heartrate function and popping it in your pocket when you are not.  It will still count steps in your pocket.

Hi @MattFitbit, do you know if compatibility between Charge 3 and Inspire HR is something that Fitbit is working on? I own one of each and was hoping that I could use them interchangeably, just found out about other users' experiences on this thread... I know a bunch of us would really appreciate being able to make the most out of having both devices by going from one to another seamlessly. Please take our prayers to the almighty Fitbit bosses and make it happen 🙏

The Inspire series is considered a fitness tracker under "products" when you hover over it on the top left of the website page. Not a smartwatch. The hr version is the closest to a Charge 3 (also under fitness tracker) and the non hr version is the closest to a flex 2 when you compare them. I have a charge 3 and a flex 2 on the same account. They work fine together on the same account. (I don't wear them at the same time lol) So why wouldn't both of the inspires work together on the same account? If they do consider the Inspire series as a smartwatch then they need to change it.

I am having this same issue. My Ionic broke and while waiting for the replacement I purchased an Inspire. I now have an Ionic too and would like to interchange them as needed. Fitbit, please fix this ASAP!

I had that same question and actually asked Fitbit about it.  Their response was that the Inspire HR and my other Fitbit (Ionic) can not be placed on the same account.  What I had to do was set up one account for my Ionic and set up a 2nd account for my Inspire HR using two different email addresses and passwords.  So when I wear my Inspire HR, I have to login with that account email and password.  Then when I want to wear my Ionic, I need to sign out of the fitbit app for my Inspire HR and sign back in with a different email address and password for my Ionic.
