I just opened my brand new Fitbit, charged it, set it up and went for a walk where per my phone I took over 1,000 steps yet my Fitbit is stating that I have only taken 14 steps today total?? Any ideas on how to fix this? Did I get a dud?

Congrats on your new Fitbit! I'll be glad to give you a hand with this. Thanks for following all the steps to set up your new Fitbit. In this case, I'd suggest to restart your Fitbit Inspire and give it a try again. If you keep having this or any other issue let me know. It should be able to track all your data automatically.
For your missing steps, you can manually log it on the Fitbit app.
