Understanding "Goal Zone" and Remaining Cals Left to Eat

Hi there,

 

I have an Inspire HR device and would like some help on understanding:

 

1. what exactly the cals in vs. out meter is measuring

2. what the number of cals left to eat means (left to eat to stay within deficit goal, or left to eat not considering deficit goal?)

 

On the article titled Ask Fitbit: Why Does My Calorie Allowance Change Throughout the Day? (https://blog.fitbit.com/fitbit-calories-in-vs-out/), under the section called Understanding Your Daily Calorie “Estimate,” they state that "You will be considered in your goal zone as long as you are within 50 calories of your deficit goal for the current time of day." 

 

However, on the example they provide (occurring on the "Personalized" setting), based on the cals in vs. out meter, there is a current deficit of 672 cals (2,403 burned - 1,731 eaten = 672 deficit), and it states the daily deficit goal is 500 cals. The meter shows as being over the goal zone, however if you have a greater deficit than your goal shouldn't that be considered under the goal zone?

 

Also, it shows that there are 406 cals left to eat. It states that if those remaining cals are eaten, and if 2,500 cals are burned (resulting in a 363 cal deficit), the 500 daily deficit goal would still not be achieved. So my question is why would it show you a number of remaining cals to eat that will not allow you to achieve your daily deficit goal?

 

Any clarification that can be provided for this would be greatly appreciated!
