Basic Sleep Details - Couldn't Get Consistent Heart Rate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I got a new Fitbit Versa, and I'm not receiving Sleep Stages details, only basic sleep data. The reason the fitbit gives for providing basic data only is that the device "couldn't get a consistent heart rate reading while you slept."

The problem is, when I look at my heart rate data, I show readings all throughout last night! I don't understand how I can show heart rate readings during all time periods, but be told that a consistent reading couldn't be done.

I tried changing the way I wore my device (higher up and snugger, as recommended), but had the same result both ways. I don't know what else to try - or again, why the device says it couldn't get consistent readings, while showing readings throughout the entire period I was asleep.

Hi @doublefantasy, it's nice to see you again in our Community Forums. I am sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing that you're not receiving the Sleep Stages details, only basic sleep data. Thank you for providing the message you receive regarding the consistent heart rate. I appreciate your troubleshooting efforts.

Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns. While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. If there is not enough information on the backend to calculate this, your old sleep pattern will show which doesn’t require heart rate.

I understand your concern since you see your heart rate readings throughout the night. I recommend restarting your device and confirming the scenarios when you can get your sleep pattern instead of sleep stages here

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @SamanthaP86.

Thank you for joining the thread and sharing that you're experiencing the same issue. I appreciate your troubleshooting efforts. I understand your concern, thank you for letting me know that most of the nights you receive sleep stages, but at least once a week you receive a basic sleep data. If you don't receive sleep stages, you should receive a message explaining the reason. You can tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern to see the message. Additionally, I recommend checking if your Fitbit app is updated to the latest version as updates come with new features and bug fixes: How do I update the Fitbit app?

I bought my Fitbit 4 in March and have had the same problem. I have only received the basic sleep since April. I did get a couple of full sleep patterns initially (i never experienced the same problems with my Fitbit 2). I get the same message every morning saying it couldn't get a constant heart rate. I have spent hours on the phone to the help line, ive restarted device several times, updated the app several times, they have replaced it twice, now on my third Fitbit 4. Daughter's Samsung device works perfectly on me. Giving my Fitbit 4: to grandchild to wear as a watch and investing in a Samsung. Extremely disappointed with the device and refusal by Fitbit to refund.
