I just bought a versa lite. I did not wear it to bed last night and actually turned the power off to save battery power. When I got up in the morning it had very few calories burned but has jumped significantly throughout the day. When I had a much older fitbit it calculated the calories burnt from midnight on and I usually had a couple hundred from midnight until I got up around 6am. How does the versa calculated calories burnt and will it adjust even if it is powered off at night (my old tracker did not turn off)? Thanks

All Fitbit trackers calculate calories basically the same, except that the older ones without heart rate detection could only base calorie-burning activity on steps; Versa Lite and most other current models with heart rate monitoring make use of heart rate to determine your activity intensity, and thus calorie burn.
All trackers include your BMR calories that you are always burning to stay alive. These are credited even when you are not wearing the tracker. If you had it turned off overnight, you would still get credit for those BMR calories burned during that time.
