Counts steps while driving

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just upgraded from the Blaze to the Versa for the waterproof/swimming feature and have already noticed that it counts steps while I am driving. My Blaze was really good about not counting steps while I drove. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix for it?

Thanks!

Hi! Did you log the drive with the drop down in the app or did you add driving manually as an activity.  It doesn't work if you add it manually as an activity.  I have only seen the drop down in the app. You would log it in the exercise section.  Exercise tile > stopwatch > Log previous > Click on the search and driving should come up.  Put in the requested info and adjust the calories if necessary and save.  Give it a minute or two and your steps will update.

@MrsGixxer I have logged driving that way many times before. Sometimes it removes the steps, but not always. It has never removed the steps for a challenge I'm in, ie: workweek hustle, weekend warrior, or the daily ones. Turning it off has solved the issue altogether for me.

On my Charge2 I have this maybe 5 times in a year. On the Versa it happens 1-3 times a week. The cause is related to point 1

Its not only from driving based on my experience... Even when I scratch my son's back when he is about to sleep. Steps counts. When I swing my hands, steps counts. When i fold my laundries steps counts. When I took a shower or brush my teet steps counts. Virtually any movement done on your hand with the watch will count as a step.

This is so unacceptable... I wish I can return this versa and go back to Samsung Gear... I can make 20k steps just by swinging my hands. No sweat!

Come on fitbit! You can do better than this!

I had a Charge HR for over a year before switching to the Versa and it counted driving the same.  All such devices do.  Wish it didn’t but cancelling it with a manual entry is pretty painless and only needed for longer drives.  My take, YMMV.

Well, my gear s doesn't as well as my skagen hybrid watch... I even wore both watches at the same time and the discrepancy was 33%... Using the driving activity is ok but it will just make fitbit not to fix these issue as they assume that people are ok with it. Lol And worst is that, they dont have any explanation why it happens.

This seems really cool. I'm going to try it but mine doesn't log it as an activity. My heart rate isn't high enough. I could manually enter it for long drives but mine counts steps even on short drives. Seems like a lot of work to do that every time I get in the car.

@rl22, i find that the number of steps it adds for short drives aren’t worth cancelling, not much impact.

I have an older car and it counts steps like crazy whenever I drive even short distances.  I just do it manually after every drive - it’s a huge pain.

I’m having the same problem. My new versa is going wild counting car rides and even adding steps when I’m on the riding lawnmower. Wonder if they can change this with a software upgrade!?!

My Alta HR didn’t do this either or if it did it was so slight that I didn’t notice. It’s frustrating because the company representatives have said they work very hard at making the step counting accurate. I might go back to my Alta HR. A shame.

I’m having the same problem! I’m so annoyed!! I got a rollercoaster badge for 141 floors and it was just me driving.

OT...

Is there anyone notice or knew that to be able to sync, you need to be connected to the internet? I had issues with syncing as well... Its been a pain in the **ahem**.. I wasted my entire day the past month just to wait till my versa sync with my LG G6... Been to forum for syncing issue... Follow all the steps that these so called moderators gave and it only works temporarily. The following day or the next time you sync it. It is the same pain... I dont get it... I message fitbit on fb... I cant live with these. Whats the point of having a watch when instead of making your life easier somewhat it adds to a burden... I wish i can return this for a refund. Not worth every penny...

@DDac The watch will sync with your phone without the internet (transfer watch data to the phone) but to sync to the Fitbit server (and then to your other devices and for browsers) obviously the internet is required...so the sync will not complete without it.

Tom,

Thanks for the response. Supposedly it has to sync even without internet, but unfortunately, in my case is didn't. I chat and tried and searched. It says phone must be connected to the internet. In my understanding, the app and watch will sync via internet and send all the data in you watch to Fitbit and then analyze it to give us what we see on the dashboard e.g. resting HR, 24/7 HR data etc.Screenshot_2018-07-25-08-48-02.png

Above is an example of my app trying to sync without the internet and it asked me to connect.

The more I use the watch, the more I discover unexpected flaws (if comparing to other smart watches)...

I also ask them, what causes Lg G6 to have syncing issue. They said it is based on hardware which unfortunately I dont buy that reason. Because they listed Lg G2 as compatible device but not G6. While s9+ is not listed but dont have syncing issue...

For now, i wish i can still return this watch. Although I love its function but sycing the entire morning, restarting phone and watch multipe times is a pain and unacceptable.

Thanks.

Same issue.

Had a Charge HR before which recorded steps and floors while driving - but at some point this got fixed and became a non issue.

How i have a Versa - and its been great until I drove for 3 hours. I'm trying to build allround fitness so I stopped a couple of times to walk a couple of hundred steps. When i arrive I have 96 floors climbed !

I've used the web site to add an activity to remove steps and floors. This has NOT removed it.

This is surely a problem with the sensitivity of the sensors.

I talked to fitbit reps couple of times before. And it seems they dont bother at all by the way they handle this issue. Its been months but no updated app or whatsoever. I feel like they dont care at all since they already sold hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of units... inaccurate steps count as well as hr reading even if your not wearing it is a pain in the @$$

Hi DDac,
The only way I e been able to work around it is by downloading the DriveBit app. It works quite well, it is a bit of a pain having to start stop it and remember each time you drive. But is does take the steps off that are added while you drive. There is a free version but I just brought the app for a couple of dollars to avoid the adds. Hope this helps you

The only way I’ve found to take the steps off after driving is to download the DriveBit app. It seems to work. Hope this helps you. It’s just a pain having to remember to start and stop the app. I paid a couple of dollars for it so I didn’t get all adds for the free one
