Cycling exercise did not track data.

I am in a cold weather climate but took a bike ride on vacation recently and Versa did not log any miles or mph, etc?

Any idea what I need to do to get this to work?

I don't fuss with it like I used to and just use Samsung Health for miles now. I still start the Fitbit for activity and calories though.

Try this, have the Fitbit app open on the phone and sync the fitbit app to the watch. As soon as the app and watch sync, start the cycling exercise. While the watch and app are synced, I had the best chance of getting connected. Although sometimes it took 10-15 minutes of trying. Turn off Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth back on, reboot watch. Reboot phone. I did it for two years but stopped fussing with it a year ago when the Bluetooth connection started dropping during rides. I'm going to try today. lol

Hello @KongDW, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Tell me, did you start the cycling activity directly from your watch or did you let the Versa track it automatically? Have you restarted your Versa already by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen? If not, please restart it, then on the next cycling activity, start it from the watch by tapping on the Exercise Tile.

I hope this can be helpful, give these steps a try and let us know the outcome!

Thanks for the help.  I did start it on the cycling exercise part the first time when it didn't work.  I restarted it now and will test it out again on Saturday and report back.

I started the cycling program again and still only kept the time and the heart rate, etc but did not give me MPH or miles biked.   Not sure what is wrong.

I appreciate you have come back and let us know you're still experiencing this issue. Would it be possible for you to reply to us with a screenshot of how your cycling activity shows up in the app once you sync it? This will be very helpful for us to check this further.

UPDATE:

On the watch it is supposed to show mph and miles traveling isn't it?  It doesn't give me that.  Not sure where that is supposed to show up on the screen shot but I do not see a place for it.

You had your phone with, didn't you? When you start a cycling activity, you'll see "connecting". You won't get speed and distance info if it's not connected to your phones GPS. So you should try to have it "connected" before you click the go arrow.

Best Answer

Thanks.  I did not see the "connecting" part.  Will do that next time.  I'm guessing that is the issue.  Will report back after next ride.  Thanks again.

You're welcome and good luck. Probably not a good sign, you have 0 stats in those areas. The connection apparently never happened. There are plenty of posts on the forum about connected GPS issues, but at least now you know you won't get the stats you're looking for without the connection.

Hello @MarkMM thanks for joining the conversation. It's nice to see you too @KongDW thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

@MarkMM I appreciate you have taken the time to provide your insights about this situation. I'm sure they will be helpful. @KongDW please keep us updated if anything changes. Note that when you're tracking an activity with GPS, Fitbit calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, the tracker will calculate distance using steps and stride length as described above until a GPS signal is found.

Thanks for your patience, have a great day!

I disagree @MarcoGFitbit . This is a cycling thread. There is no stride length in cycling. You get 0 distance in a cycling activity if GPS does not connect. I can start posting screen shots if you like.

I tried it again this morning.  It just kept saying "connecting" in the top left corner of the watch and never did connect.  I checked the phone and the bluetooth settings showed it connected to versa so not sure what to think.

I have the same problem. My rides only track on time and don’t report miles or mph. It’s very frustrating! Would love more tips. I will try the connectivity troubleshoot that some are suggesting.

I had this same issue the last 2 rides. I was used to track bike rides with my Versa. I patiently wait untill the "Connect" message is shown and the short vibration on the device is felt, then start. All good until last week when it only logged the elapsed time and heart rate. No miles, no speed, anything. Same this morning. Any advice on how to get it back? I really like this feature as I want to keep tracking my commute.

Thanks!
