Fitbit Versa connected GPS issues

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi There!

My versa loses connection with my phone (nexus 5x) during bike excercise and thus shows no route on the map. I know I have gps, because Strava app shows it right.

Is this a bug in the software from the Versa?

I tried to start an excercise from fitbit app, but only walk, run or hike does gps. (no bike. why not?!?) so i choose hike.  now i have a hike excercise with hr and ps data. this this excercise shows after sync with strava in strava as hike. in strava i change hike in bike.

now i have bike excercise in strava with hr and gps. after a while just from magic, the ecercise in strava has been changed back into hike again with no hr data anymore.

I know that fitbit versa is not a swiss watch, but at least it should be working as advertised!

connected gps is not not working. People at Fitbit, can you fix this?

ok.. after no help from FITBIT

and screwing around with it.. Today.. i had a full run.. and it did not disconnect once..

the solution is to have the bluetooth for the music on the watch set to pair.. I know it makes no sense. but that is the only difference...

can someone else try it to be sure that i am not going crazy..

Paul. You are right. That’s crazy. If it worked it’s a fluke. I’m going on a Ride Friday so I’ll try it.

Another gem. My last 2 rides and the bpm metric is way off. Yet my resting hr seems to work. Used to work. Maybe I need to tighten the band so it cuts off the circulation.

Just wanted to share what worked for me.  I have had my versa for 9 days and I wanted to use the GPS to track my bike rides.  It worked great until yesterday and I had the same issue today.  It was always saying connecting and would never connect and track my ride.  I fixed this my removing my versa from the fitbit app on my android phone and re-added it. I then went back through the setup.  It connected immediately after.

I can't seem to get mine to stay connected, no matter the settings.  I suspect the Versa needs a firmware update?????

Yeah, I have tried disconnecting the device in the app and then reconnecting it (several times). I have gone so far as to do a factory reset and reconnect the device (several times). Sometimes it works for a little while and then stops working again. (Sometimes after not working at all for a while it decides to reconnect and works fine for a week or so before going off again.) @MidwestMisc, if this is a permanent fix for you, then great, but I'm not hopeful. Let us know how it works out.

Hello all, I hope you are doing fine.

I am sorry to hear about the GPS connection issues you all are experiencing and appreciate the feedback provided. I would like to know if you have checked if your phones are compatible mobile devices? If you haven't, you can check that here.

Keep in mind that in order to have a successful connection between your watches and phones, they need to compatible. When a phone isn't compatible, it doesn't mean that it won't work with your Fitbit but you might experience some connectivity issues. You can always try the instructions provide in the help article Why isn't GPS working on my Fitbit device? but I don't guarantee it will work 100%.

Catch you later. Woman Happy

Yes my Motorola Droid turbo is compatible.  It is not consistent.  Sometimes it connects in the middle of a ride, sometimes just shows connecting.  Very frustrating

This "compatible phone" bull**ahem** is just that. For one thing, there are no phones on the list released in the last 2-3 years. No one keeps a phone for that long.

Actually, I used to have a "compatible" phone, a Nexus 5X. I had the same problems from the very beginning. Then I upgraded to a non-compatible phone, a OnePlus 6. (BTW, the only OnePlus phone on the "compatible" list is the OnePlus One, that was released more than 4 years ago!) My OnePlus 6 worked OK sometime, not well other times. After chatting with someone from Fitbit, I was told to ensure that the problem was not the phone. I went back to my Nexus 5X, and with the up-to-date version of the mobile app (2.75) it would not do connected GPS at all.

Phone "compatibility" is just a sham. The functionality of the app changes with the version. A couple of versions ago, it was eating up nearly 50% of my battery. A little before that it was recording my regular 20 km rides as being between 4 and 6 km. Recently it has only been about 5% off on average (but some days much worse). This is most definitely a software issue. Saying it's hardware compatibility is pure prevarication.

I have apple 5s but gps is bad. I’ve given up. Can’t believe all the work you’ve had to do. After several resets hard resets that’s enough for me. Time to move on.   Bad experience. Time for Apple Watch I’ve been holding off on. At least it works as advertised.

I turned off my Wi-Fi and for two days my bike ride has correctly recorded my ride.  It may be a fluke, but it worked from start to finish. No more connecting, connecting, connecting! The mileage matched my odometer.

If this helps, @Lindy52, then I'm happy for you. I tried this a long time ago and it had no effect on my ride tracking. It could be just a coincidence; I have had periods of 2, 3 days when my rides were tracked accurately and then the next day it was way off. Go figure.

I have taken all steps suggested in this thread to try and improve my issue with the connected GPS. Ultimately it is a real pain. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and it means I have to stop and restart my phone or Fitbit, restart the app etc just to get it connected. I am really unhappy with this product.
