Fitbit Versa will not track treadmill steps

My Fitbit Versa Lite wil not track treadmill steps.  Had an Alta which tracked these perfectly. Everything else works, unless I am on a treadmill.  What to do?

I haven't tried the versa light, but found no issues with the Versa 2 on the treadmill as long as I am not holding on and letting my arms move in a natural way or leaving the arms still. This way they move up and down with my steps.
