Fitbit iPhone app crashes during exercise - Versa 2

Half way through my walk the iPhone app tracking my progress disappears and can’t be started again - this has only recently started happening - app & firmware are both up to date.  I'm using a Versa 2 but it's the app that's the problem, the watch still auto tracks and uploads when I get home but doesn't have distance as it doesn't have it's own GPS.

Let me help you with the issue you are experiencing in regards your exercise tracking. Thank you for emphasizing your app is up to date.

If your app crashes when you are tracking a GPS activity, make sure the Fitbit app can use your phone's GPS sensors. You can find how to verify this with the help of our article How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device? below the section "How do I get my Fitbit device to connect to GPS?" > Phone (connected) GPS > Requirements.
