Fitbit versa 2 or 3?. New runner

Good afternoon all.

Hope we are all okay?.

I’m my 8th week into running and I was just looking for some advice. I’ve invested a lot of money recently into gear, clothes, trainers, vest, etc. I have just purchased my first watch, the sole purpose of the watch is for my runs to work when I run with my backpack with my uniform in and I won’t be able to have a vest on. I just wanted to be able to see distance I’ve ran as my phone will be in the bottom of my bag.

I’ve bought Fitbit versa 2 as from what I’ve seen it uses your iPhone 15 gps?. However, from a friend I’ve been offered a versa 3 and 4 for the same price. Is it worth returning versa 2 and switching for the versa 3?. I just fear as the versa 3 has its own gps and I just don’t want two different readings?. I am set on either of these for a starter watch and don’t intend to invest more money until I’ve progressed further (just so I can treat myself down the line after just spending £200 on trainers)

Thanks!

@CoreyMewis96 if you take a look through this forum, there seem to be a lot of issues arising with the Versa 2 lately. It's an older, discontinued device and it may reach the end of its useful lifespan sooner than you would like it to.

I'm also a runner and I use a Fitbit Sense, which is essentially the same as the Versa 3. It's also an older device, but it's newer than the Versa 2. I've never had any trouble with it and find it to be a good watch for running. I'm expecting to be able to use it for another year or two.

The Versa 3 does have it's own GPS. I think that would be a good thing in your situation because you'll be able to verify that GPS is connected just by looking at your wrist.

I'm not sure if you understand how GPS on the watch will behave, but it only gives you one set of GPS data in the Fitbit app. There won't be any confusion between GPS from Fitbit and GPS from your phone. You start tracking your run on the watch and GPS will connect automatically.
