Gmail notifications on versa 2 from Pixel 3 android

Hello

I just got my versa 2 for Christmas and I am not getting email(Gmail) notifications.  I am using a pixel 3 smartphone and have notifications turned on ...what am I missing?

Let me help you with your Gmail notifications. Please try these suggestions to help your Versa 2 get your email notifications. You could also select a different default email service and then select Gmail from Apps notifications.
